    摘要: To obtain a sample of molten metal from a vessel, e.g. for analysis, a refractory block 14 is installed in a wall (11) of the vessel and is traversed by at least one passage (15) temporarily closed by a frangible or dislodgeable closure (20) at the melt end thereof. After filling the vessel with metal, a rigid elongated pipe (21) movable lengthwise in the passage is placed therein, the pipe being operatively connected with a sample mould (22). To obtain a sample, the pipe (21) and mould (22) are advanced forcibly in a forward direction, so that a forward end of the pipe (21) strikes and breaks or dislodges the closure (20). Molten metal then gains access to the pipe (21) and is free to flow along the pipe to enter the mould (22). After leaving sufficient time for the melt in the mould (22) to freeze or become pasty, the mould (22) is removed from the pipe (21) e.g. by a shearing means (48) and the sample is extracted from the mould for evaluation.

    摘要: A sampler for taking samples from a molten metal bath, particularly a molten iron includes a sample chamber assembly having a cover plate and a housing. The housing has first and second openings for an inflow conduit and a gas coupler, respectively. The first face has an analysis zone, a ventilation zone, and a distribution zone. A depth of the analysis zone is 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm. The cover plate and the housing are assembled together to form a sample cavity. The sample chamber assembly chills the molten iron received therein to a solidified white structure metal sample. An analysis surface of the sample lies in a first plane. In a flow direction of the molten iron, there are no increases in width of the sample cavity and a ratio of the length to depth of the sample cavity increases.

    摘要: An apparatus for generating an aerosol powder from a melt includes an atomization die (110) having an orifice (111) through which the melt (400) passes to create the powder. The orifice is in the size range at and immediately above that which is just sufficient to permit continuous generation of such powder. The die 110 may be included in a high-temperature probe 100 suitable for immersion in the melt, so that accumulated accretions of powder on the walls of the probe may be melted off by heating the probe.
