Abstract:
The invention concerns a method for determining the reflectance of an object (4), the method comprising a step of solving an equation having several unknowns, the equation being obtained from formed images, the reflectance of the object (4) and the illumination of the external light source (6) being two unknowns of the equation. The step of solving the equation comprises: calculating solution points of the equation, interpolating the calculated points by means of an interpolation function, and using at least one of the following approximations to solve the equation: a first approximation according to which each image is derived from the emission of a separate light flash, a second approximation according to which the interpolation function determines the stability points of the equation.
Abstract:
Solar spectral irradiance (SSI) measurements are important for solar collector/photovoltaic panel efficiency and solar energy resource assessment as well as being important for scientific meteorological/climate observations and material testing research. To date such measurements have exploited modified diffraction grating based scientific instruments which are bulky, expensive, and with low mechanical integrity for generalized deployment. A compact and cost-effective tool for accurately determining the global solar spectra as well as the global horizontal or tilted irradiances as part of on-site solar resource assessments and module performance characterization studies would be beneficial. An instrument with no moving parts for mechanical and environment stability in open field, non-controlled deployments could exploit software to resolve the global, direct and diffuse solar spectra from its measurements within the 280-4000 nm spectral range, in addition to major atmospheric processes, such as air mass, Rayleigh scattering, aerosol extinction, ozone and water vapour absorptions.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for detecting the presence of hydrocarbons near an unmanned offshore oil platform. The method steps include monitoring reflected atmospheric and thermal radiation, detecting the presence of hydrocarbons, and generating an alert based on the presence of hydrocarbons.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method of determining the presence of keratin, particularly hard keratin, such as exists in mammalian hair and feathers, and objects comprising such materials. The method of the present invention also includes displaying information derived from such a determination, as well as a measurement method followed by transmission of data to a remote processing site for analysis or display. The invention also includes devices for carrying out the determination, display and/or transmission.
Abstract:
A biological sample observation apparatus includes a solid-state image pickup element (1) and a holding member (3). The holding member holds an observation target sample (2) on an upper portion of a light-receiving portion of the solid-state image pickup element, at a predetermined distance therefrom, without an optical system. A biological sample observation system and method are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to an inspection apparatus, a sensing apparatus, a sensitivity control apparatus, an inspection method, and a program that perform inspection with improved accuracy. The inspection apparatus includes a detection section for detecting a plurality of different wavelength region components of ambient light reflected from an inspection target to be inspected, and a control section for controlling the sensitivity of each of the different wavelength region components. The control section controls the sensitivity by calculating a histogram indicating the detection level in every wavelength region of light reflected from the inspection target that is detected by the detection section, and determining, based on histograms of particular spectroscopic components, whether or not the sensitivity is properly set for the detection section. The present technology is applicable, for example, to an inspection apparatus that inspects vegetation.
Abstract:
A food product analysis device (1) includes a memory portion that stores food product database containing a plurality of items of food product information including characteristic information including at least one of first light absorption information which is information relating to absorption of near infrared light and ingredient information which is information relating to an ingredient of a food product, and type information which is information relating to a type of the food product. In addition, the food product analysis device includes an analysis portion that matches measured information, which is the characteristic information obtained on the basis of a result of measurement using the near infrared light, with the food product database.
