A method for testing an impact strength of a micro-structure is also disclosed.

A sensor (28) is provided along a conveying path (24) of the chain (20) for sensing the presence of the pin (12) or bolt (12') and/or extension as the section of chain is conveyed along the conveying path (24). The sensor (28) provides a signal indicative of a detection of the pin (12) or pins or bolts (12'). A control (30) may be responsive to the sensor (28), such as to determine the degree of wear in the section of chain in response to one or more signals from the sensor (28).

A method to test a plug valve seal by embedding a test coupon into the face of the slip. Even the heat energy is averaged by placing the test coupon at the midsection of the slip. During the bond adhesive application all applicable surfaces have the same adhesive applied during the same time frame in the same environment (except under test coupon tab which shall be prevented from adhering mechanically or chemically). The elastomer prepared for the seal groove is identical and is prepared in the same batch as that for the test coupon and all installed with the same tackifying agent by the same individual. The seal cross-section is the same as the test section of the seal test coupon. The post cure is next completed equally on seal and test coupon. After cool down occurs, the test coupon test tab (which was prevented from adhering mechanically or chemically earlier) is released and placed into a pull tab fixture and a varying known load is applied. The elongation is monitored and a stress/strain curve can be generated, verifying material properties. Further pulled to failure, the seal groove adhesion is verified. The removed test tab can then be compression set tested and a variety of other tests can be performed. Material and performance certifications can be generated for each slip seal.

Bei dem Verfahren wird zumindest ein Testelement (2) in einem Bereich der Verdichter- oder Turbinenstufe angebracht, in dem es einer vergleichbaren Betriebsbelastung wie die zu überwachende Komponente ausgesetzt ist. Das Testelement (2) wird nach einer vorgebbaren Betriebszeit der zu überwachenden Komponente untersucht. Schließlich wird aus dem Kriechverhalten des Testelementes das Kriechverhalten der zu überwachenden Komponente abgeleitet. Das Verfahren ermöglicht die genaue Erfassung des Kriechverhaltens bzw. der Kriechschädigung der zu überwachenden Komponente während der Lebensdauer dieser Komponente.

An apparatus and a method for measuring and controlling the crack growth rate within a double cantilever beam type test specimen (50). The arms (51,52) of the test specimen are fitted with a pressure-actuated bellows (62) to induce a predetermined load and with a sensing assembly (70) to provide feedback on the amount of beam displacement resulting from application of that load. In this manner a loaded test specimen may be remotely mounted and adjusted inside the reactor pressure vessel or piping of a nuclear reactor in order to maintain a stress intensity which is constant or which varies in a predetermined manner for inducing stress corrosion cracking or corrosion fatigue in the specimen.
