[Means for Solution] The method detects a fusion gene composed of a portion of an FGFR3 gene and a portion of a TACC3 gene or a fusion protein encoded by the fusion gene. The primer set, the probe set, or the detection kit comprises a sense primer and a probe set designed from the portion encoding FGFR3 and an antisense primer and a probe set designed from the portion encoding TACC3. Since an inhibitor of the polypeptide exhibits antitumor effect, a pharmaceutical composition for treating cancer which is positive for either the fusion gene or the polypeptide is provided.

A 3-gene prognostic panel has been identified that together accurately predicted the outcome of low Gleason score prostate tumors as either truly indolent or at a high risk of becoming aggressive. The 3-gene prognostic panel was validated on independent cohorts confirmed its independent prognostic value, as well as its ability to improve prognosis with currently used clinical nomograms. Expression of the 3-gene prognostic panel was determined by quantifying mRNA or protein encoded by the panel (collectively referred to as "prognostic biomarkers"). The prognostic biomarkers were discovered to be up-regulated in indolent tumors and down-regulated in aggressive forms of prostate cancer.

The present invention relates to a method for predicting the responsiveness of a mammalian tumor cell or cancer cell to an inhibitor of a fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR). Also a method for predicting the responsiveness of an individual to an inhibitor of a fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) is provided. These methods involve the evaluation of the status of FGFR and the status of c-myc, whereby said status of FGFR and of c-myc is indicative for the responsiveness to the inhibitor. The status of FGFR may be its amplifcation status or its expression level and the status of c-myc may be its expression level, like an intermediate or high expression level of c-myc. Furthermore, a kit useful for carrying out the methods described herein as well as an oligo- or polynucleotide and/or antibodies capable of detecting the expression level or gene amplification status of FGFR or the expression level of c-myc for predicting the responsiveness to the inhibitor are provided.
