    摘要: The present invention discloses a data compression method, including: periodically collecting, by a metadata controller MDC in a storage system, first information indicating a current working status of each computing node in the storage system, and second information indicating a current working status of each storage node in the storage system; determining, by the MDC based on the first information, a computing node that is one of the computing nodes and whose current working status is not a busy state as a current active computing node; determining, by the MDC based on the second information, a storage node that is one of the storage nodes and whose current working status is not a busy state as a current active storage node; and compressing, by a distributed software header DSH in the current active computing node or a memory manager MM in the current active storage node, a piece of data when the storage system needs to compress the data. Meanwhile, the present invention further discloses a storage system.

The storage controller 2600 holds storage cost coefficients 3202 of the respective storage apparatuses 1100, 1200 and 1300, user cost allocation information 3302 for each user using the storage system 1000 from the external device 1500, and user cost distribution information 3402 that defines, for each user, proportions of an available space amount distributed to the storage apparatuses 1100, 1200 and 1300. The storage controller 2600 calculates an ideal utilization 3502 for each user, from the storage cost coefficients 3202 and the user cost distribution information 3402, and allocates, for each user, the ideal utilization 3502 to each of the storage apparatuses 1100, 1200 and 1300, in the order of the performance capabilities from highest to lowest.

    摘要: A storage apparatus coupled to a host device comprises a virtual volume which is a virtual logical volume configured of multiple virtual areas and a pool configured of multiple actual area groups of different performances. A controller manages pool status information which is the information showing which actual area is allocated to which virtual area and access load related to the virtual areas. A management system of the storage apparatus, with reference to the pool status information at multiple points of time from past to present and an access load threshold which is equal to or larger than 1, estimates the used capacity of each actual area group at points of time in the future, calculates the installed/removed amount of each actual area group which is the difference between the estimated used capacity and the current storage capacity, and performs the processing based on the calculated result.
