Es werden Etiketten beschrieben, die aus Papier, Aluminium, Kunststoffolie oder Zusammensetzungen hiervon bestehen. Derartige Etiketten dienen zur Kennzeichnung handelsfähiger Gegenstände der Nahrungs- und Genußmittelindustrie, vorzugsweise zum Aufbringen auf Glas- und/oder Kunststoff-Flaschen bzw. -Flaschenkästen der Getränkeindustrie. Sie sind mit einer auf der Etikettenrückseite aufgetragenen aktivierbaren, die mechanische Ablösung ermöglichenden ersten Schicht und mit einer auf deren Oberfläche aufgebrachten zweiten, gegenüber dem mit dem Etikett zu kennzeichnenden Gegenstand Hafvermittlereigenschaften aufweisenden Beschichtung versehen. Der Stoff der ersten Schicht ist wenigstens teilweise in das Etikettenmaterial eingearbeitet und bildet eine schwitzwasserfeste Trennschicht. Die zweite Beschichtung vermittelt Klebeigenschaften und ist in Form eines Beleimungsmusters aufgebracht.

The label stock (10) includes a water reducible ink system for forming a water resistant ink label and a scuff resistant, protective, clear coat layer (20). A label carrier (14), formed from non-absorbent paper or plastic, receives the water resistant ink label. In the preferred embodiment, a heat-activated adhesive (26) is applied to the surface of the color coat layer (22) for transferring the label from the label carrier (14) to the substrate. The heat-activated adhesive (26) has an activation temperature less than the distortion temperature of the label carrier so as not to distort the image during transfer. A heat-activated, cross-linking agent may be added in one of the color coat (22) and the protective, clear coat (20) to improve water soak resistance. The heat-activated, cross-linking agent has an activation temperature of greater than the activation temperature of the adhesive (26).
