摘要: A system and method for connecting a security system using a network. The security system includes at least two discrete parts and is connected using a local area network. The security system also includes a first dedicated, hard-wired field bus, a first plurality of peripheral devices, a control panel, a first transfer device, a second transfer device, a second dedicated, hard-wired field bus, and a second plurality of peripheral devices. The control panel is configured to send data through the first field bus. Each of the first plurality of peripheral devices is coupled to the first field bus and is configured to receive the data from the control panel. The first transfer device is connected to the control panel and is configured to packetize the data from the control panel and send the packetized data through the local area network. The second transfer device is coupled to the second field bus and is configured to receive the packetized data from the first transfer device and depacketize the packetized data. The first transfer device is configured to generate an acknowledgment message in response to the data from the control panel before the packetized data is sent through the local area network. Each of the second plurality of peripheral devices is configured to receive data from the second transfer device, generate a second acknowledgement message in response to the data from the second transfer device, and send the second acknowledgement message to the second transfer device. The second transfer device does not send the second acknowledgment message to the control panel, thus emulating the control panel.

摘要: A novel multi-port network transceiver having an LED interface supporting parallel and serial LED modes. The LED interface has a pair of LED pins for each port. In the parallel LED mode, one pin of this pair represents status of a 10 Mb/s communication, whereas another pin represents status of a 100 Mb/s communication. In the serial LED mode, status information for all ports is transferred using 3 pins supplying a serial data stream, a frame signal and 2 clock signal. The serial data stream is composed of frames, each of which represents various events for the multiple ports. The frame signal is used to identify the boundary between the frames. The transfer of the serial data stream is synchronous to the clock signal.

摘要: A ring network for transporting data packets between network devices is provided. The ring network includes a number of ring switches. Each ring switch has at least one ring port, at least one local port and at least one table that self learns which network devices are associated with each port of the ring switch based on a selected source identifier from the packets processed by the ring switch. The source and destination identifiers may, for example, be a media access control (MAC) address from an Ethernet packet, an Internet Protocol (IP) address, at least a portion of a hierarchical address, a combination of two or more identifiers at different protocol levels for the data packet, a port number of a universal datagram protocol, or other appropriate identifier. The at least one ring port of each ring switch is coupled to a ring port of another ring switch in the ring network. The ring switch switches data packets between its ring and local ports to direct the data packets to specified network devices associated with the at least one local port of the ring switches in the ring network. The ports of the ring switches are configured such that data packets received at the at least one ring port and the at least one local port that are not destined for a network device associated with the at least one local port of the ring switch are switched to another ring switch on the ring network based on the at least one table without the use of a token or encapsulating the packet.

摘要: A communication system between LANs having different kinds of equipment comprising a backbone LAN (1) connected to a plurality of branch line LANs (7, 7') via nodes (2A, 2B, 2C, 2D). A branch line LAN frame (30) sent out from one of terminals (8, 9, 10, 15, 18, 21) is taken in a backbone LAN frame (40) at the node (2A, 2B, 2C, or 2D) connected to the terminal and gives the address of the node being located adjacently on the downstream side of the node having sent out the frame (30) to the backbone LAN frame (40) accordingly. Then, the backbone LAN frame (40) is transmitted in the backbone LAN (1). At the node whose address coincides with the addresses included in the backbone LAN frame (40), the branch line LAN frame (30) is separated from the backbone LAN frame (40).

摘要: A large number of local area networks (52, 58) are each connected to a backbone network (80) through a network interface module (NIM) (82-88). The NIM transmits messages from one local area network to another local area network across the backbone network by enveloping the local area network message inside the data field of a backbone network message. Each of the NIM constructs a table of addresses. The backbone network messages are each addressed to the particular destination NIM. The destination NIM receives the backbone network message and de-envelopes it for transmission over its own local area network.
