    摘要: The subject invention concerns a novel plasmid and its use in a microbial host to degrade a variety of organic compounds. Some of these compounds, such as ethylene dichloride, are undesirable waste products found in various dump sites. The invention also concerns a novel microbe hosting the novel plasmid. The novel plasmid has been shown to encode the gene(s) responsible for the degradation of the organic compounds. Thus, microbes hosting this plasmid, denoted pEDC, can be used to degrade ethylene dichloride, and other compounds.

    摘要: In place of conventional carrier bodies for attaching microorganisms used in various microbiological reactions in a bioreactor, the invention provides an improved carrier body, which is in a cylindrical, tubular, angular or spherical form having specified dimensions, formed of filaments of a synthetic resin having a specified diameter and intertwisted with each other to give a specified bulk density and specified void ratio. By virtue of the greatly increased capacity available for supporting microbial cells, the efficiency of various microbiological reactions can be greatly improved by using the inventive carrier for microorganisms in ethyl alcohol and citric acid fermentation, waste water treatment, etc. The carrier bodies of the invention can be used also in a fluidized-bed type bioreactor by either compressing the carrier body with a heated tool or covering the surface of the carrier body with a plastic-made net or perforated film to prevent intertwinement of the protruded filament ends on the surface of the carrier bodies.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to methods and substances which can be utilized to enhance bioconversion process. It relates to a method of increasing the capacity and rate of a microbial cell population's bioconversion of a substrate in an aqueous system, without an attendant significant increase in (i) the microbial cell population and (ii) solid waste production from said bioconversion, which microbial cells maintain their life cycle and reproduce through the production, use and storage of energy and the maintenance of an energy reservoir, characterized in that there is added to said system an effective amount of a substance or substances which will effectively impede the natural tendency of the microbial cell during its bioconversion of said substrate to attain its normal energy reservoir level and will thereby promote greater bioconversion of the substrate because of the microbial cell's attempt to achieve its normal energy reservoir. It also relates to a composition characterized by a member selected from
    (A) beta-bromo-beta-nitrostyrene, and bis-(trichiorome- thyl) sulfone and at least one member selected from (B) 4,7 diphenyl-1, 10 phenathroiine;
    2-mercaptobenzothiazole; myristic acid; N,N,N',N'tetramethyl p-phenylene diamine; rotenone; salicylanilide; tetraphenylboron; thiosalicylic acid; and dicyclohexylcarbodiimide.

    摘要: @ Mixing systems for liquids having fibers suspended therein wherein the fibers tenaciously adhere to and accumulate on the leading edge of an impeller (30), thereby increasing the drag of the liquid on the impeller (30) as it rotates and the consequent increase in the power required to rotate the impeller (30), is reduced. Axial flow of the liquid in a tank (10) is produced by the impeller (30) within a draft tube (12). The leading edge (38) of the blades (32) of the impeller (30) are inclined with respect to radial lines (60) extending from the axis of rotation (56) of the impeller (30) beyond the angle of repose of the fibers on the leading edge (38). Also, the coefficient of friction of the portion of the impeller (30), extending from the leading edge (38) toward the trailing edge (40) thereof, to which the fibers adhere is reduced by providing the surface thereof with a low coefficient of friction material (50).

    摘要: Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur biologischen Rei nigung von organische Schmutzstoffe enthaltenden Flüssig keiten und/oder Flüssigkeits-Feststoffgemischen sowie eine Vorrichtung zur Durchführung des Verfahrens. Die zu behan delnden Flüssigkeiten und/oder Flüssigkeits-Feststoffgemi sche werden dabei durch einen Reaktor geleitet, in dem die Schmutzstoffe mit Hilfe von auf mindestens einem Trägerele ment angesiedelten Mikroorganismen gegebenenfalls unter Zufuhr von Sauerstoff und/oder Sauerstoff enthaltenden Ga sen abgebaut werden. Um auf einfache Weise unter Einhaltung geringer Investitions- und Betriebskosten einen möglichst ho hen Wirkungsgrad zu erreichen, wird mit Hilfe des Trägerele ments in der Strömung eine vollständige statische Durchmi schung im Mikrobereich erzeugt.
