The invention refers to a method for drying of solid bulk materials with gas in a fluidized bed and a speed dryer for implementing the method. According to the invention, the method is carried out in such a way that the interaction between the gas and the solid bulk material propeeds in a hydro - dynamic regime of a fluidized bed in which are created and implemented fluidized beds with both straight direction and opposite direction of movement of the phase flows. Pursuant to the invention, the method is realized in a speed dryer, which consists of four rigidly connected structural sections - input section, working section, exit section and supporting section, and as to reduce the hydraulic resistance in the gas phase, instead of supporting grid in order to generate two-phase fluidized beds, a shaft's system (8) is applied.

An apparatus for calcining gypsum including a housing having a bottom wall, opentop, and a plurality of side walls extending therebetween. A fixture is located adjacent the open top for receiving gypsum from a source and transferring the gypsum into the housing. At least one burner is connected to the housing and operable for combusting an air-fuel mixture to heat the gypsum. At least one serpentine burner conduit extends from the burner through the housing and terminates through a support floor of the apparatus. The exhaust flow is then directed through a fluidization pad and into the gypsum to further heat the gypsum product. An agitation mechanism is operable to mix the gypsum adjacent the fluidization pad to prevent pockets of gypsum from coagulating and preventing fluidization of the gypsum.

The present invention relates to a dryer (1) for free-flowing material to be dried (6), comprising a conveyor track which the material to be dried (6) is to pass through with at least one rotatable conveyor worm (2) in which a gas can be passed through the material to be dried (6), wherein the minimum of at least one rotatable conveyor worm (2) forming the conveyor track is surrounded over its entire circumference with a gas-permeable and material-impermeable casing (20). The new dryer (1) is characterized in that during operation of the dryer (1), the free-flowing material to be dried (6) fills only partially the cross section of the conveyor worm (2) inside the casing (20), in that the gas in a lower area of the conveyor worm (2) can be fed through the casing (20) into the inside of the conveyor worm (2) with the formation of a fluidized bed in the material to be dried (6), and in that the gas, after passing through the material to be dried (6) forming the fluidized bed, can be discharged into a top area of the conveyor worm (2) through the casing (20) thereof. The invention also relates to a method for operating a dryer (1).
