摘要: The present invention relates to a method of separating at least one target biomolecule species from a biological sample, comprising: (a) in a reaction mixture, contacting a biological sample known or suspected to contain first and second biomolecule species of interest with a targeted magnetic particle species, that targets the first biomolecule species of interest to form first target biomolecule/magnetic particle complexes and a targeted buoyant particle species, that targets the second biomolecule species of interest to form second target biomolecule/buoyant particle complexes; (b) isolating the first biomolecule/magnetic particle complexes from the reaction mixture using a magnetic field; and (c) separating the second target biomolecule/buoyant particle complexes from the reaction mixture using buoyancy/flotation properties.

摘要: A method for preparing a crosslinked polymer coated controlled porosity glass (CPG) particle is provided. The method involves mixing CPG particles in a solution comprising polyvinylbenzylchloride and a first solvent at a temperature below 10° C. A second solvent is added and a crosslinking agent is added to the mixture. The first solvent is removed rapidly within 1½ hours of addition of the crosslinking agent. The crosslinking reaction is permitted to proceed and the mixture is then cooled and treated to remove any remaining solvent. The resulting coated CPG particles are washed and dried. Also provided a polymer coated CPG particles using for loading ligand thereon.

摘要: Disclosed is a solid foam, comprising frustules and/or frustule powder. Also disclosed is a method for making the solid foam comprising: [a.] forming a gel comprising frustules, [b.] sintering the frustules into a monolithic structure and [c]. calcining the gel. The gel maybe a cross-linked polyacrylamide formed from acrylamide and N-N-methylenebisacrylamide. Further disclosed is a method wherein the frustules comprise titanium dioxide comprising [a.] providing diatoms comprising organic matter and the frustules, [b.] providing a growing medium for the frustules, [c.] adding titanium complex, such as Ti-triethanolamine complex, to the growing medium of diatoms, and [d.] removing organic matter of the diatoms, by treating the diatoms with an acid and calcining, thereby uncovering frustule foams comprising titanium dioxide. The frustule foams comprising titanium dioxide can be used as photocatalysts in air purification systems.

摘要: The present invention provides assay devices having a unitary body with an exterior surface, the unitary body being substantially transparent to visible light and formed from a material having a refractive index in the range 1.26 to 1.40, the refractive index being measured at 20° C. with light of wavelength 589 nm, and wherein the unitary body is formed from a hydrophobic material, and at least two capillary bores extending internally along the unitary body, wherein at least a portion of the surface of each capillary bore includes a hydrophilic layer for retaining an assay reagent, and wherein the hydrophilic layer is also substantially transparent to visible light to allow optical interrogation of the capillary bores through the capillary wall. The present invention also provides assay systems including such assay devices, methods of performing an assay using such assay devices and method of method for manufacturing such assay devices.
