    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain high speed recording and high density recording, in an information recording medium and an information recording method wherein information is recorded and reproduced by using light. SOLUTION: In the information recording medium, a first conductive polymer layer (an electrochromic layer) 1 containing a conductive polymer electrochromic material and a second conductive polymer layer 7 sandwich an electrolyte layer 2 and electrode layers 3 and 4 sandwich the both sides of the first and the second conductive polymer layers. Since a heat generation range at the time of recording is narrow, the information recording medium is tolerant of the deviation of automatic focusing and tracking and high speed rotation is made possible and high speed recording and high density recording are made possible.
