Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deposit of particulates on a bulkhead of a particulate filter and purify NOx in the exhaust gas in good performance irrespective of the engine operating condition. SOLUTION: An oxygen storing and active oxygen releasing agent 61 carried by a particulate filter 22 emits active oxygen to oxidize the particulates captured temporarily by the particulate filter 22, and by an exhaust gas changeover valve 73, the exhaust gas is allowed to pass through the filter 22 alternately from one side and the other, and a NOx absorbent 61 to absorb NOx in lean state and release NOx in the stoichiometric or rich state is carried by the filter 22, wherein the changeover interval of the valve 73 is selected so that the temperature TF of the filter lies within the range where the rate of NOx absorption is over the specified value.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for internal combustion engine capable of recovering the catalyst function over the whole catalyst converter when a poisoning recovering process is to be conducted. SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device of internal combustion engine is equipped with a catalyst converter 30 for purifying the exhaust gas installed in the exhaust passage 19 and an inverting mechanism 40 to invert the upstream part and downstream part of the catalyst converter 30 to each other. The HC and CO contents of the exhaust gas are increased by performing low temperature combustion in which the EGR rate is increased for dropping the combustion temperature, and using them as reducing agent, the SOx stored in the catalyst converter 30 is reduced and emitted. At this time of reduction process, the control device stops the inversion by the mechanism 40 temporarily, and admits inversion made thereby 40 on the condition that the SOx concentration sensed by an SOx sensor 53 is judged as below the specified level.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the regeneration disabled state of a filter by estimating the accumulation quantity of particulates on the filter, and heightening the temperature of exhaust gas to oxidize the particulates before the particulates are accumulated in a layered state on the filter. SOLUTION: This engine exhaust emission control device is constituted to once collect the particulates included in the exhaust gas, by the filter 22 disposed in an exhaust pipe 70 to remove the particulates, and to remove the collected particulates by oxidation to regenerate the filter. The filter 22 removes the collected particulates by oxidation without generating a luminous flame when the quantity of engine exhaust particulates per unit time is less than the quantity of oxidation removable particulates. A smoke sensor 102 is installed downstream of the filter in the exhaust pipe 70 to detect the concentration of the particulates in the exhaust gas, and an oxidation removal accelerating means is provided for accelerating the oxidation removal of the particulates on the filter when the output value of the smoke sensor 102 exceeds the threshold value.

SOLUTION: The discharged particulate quantity M and the particulate filter temperature TF are maintained so that only particulates less than a fixed limit quantity capable of being oxidized and removed when the discharged particulate quantity M becomes smaller than an oxidizable/removable particulate quantity G even if the discharged particulate quantity M may temporarily become larger than the oxidizable/removable particulate quantity G, thereby the particulates in the exhaust gas are oxidized and removed on the particulate filter 22 without generating a luminous flame, and the particulate filter temperature TF is prevented from rising to the sulfate generating temperature TF1 or above at which the sulfate generated quantity exceeds an allowable value.

SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine comprises the lean NOx catalyst 3 provided in an exhaust pipe and reducer amount control means 13 for controlling the amount of a reducer to be supplied to the NOx catalyst 3 corresponding to at least one parameter of an exhaust gas temperature, an engine load and a rotating speed, so that the amount of the reducer in the exhaust gas is increased in a period from starting deceleration to starting acceleration in an engine operated condition and adsorbed in the NOx catalyst 3. After starting the acceleration, the adsorbed reducer is emitted and reacted with NOx, therefore improving a NOx clean-up rate during acceleration.

SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine prevents the temperature drop of an exhaust gas passage located on the upstream side of the particulate filter by reducing the flow rate of the exhaust gas or raising the exhaust gas temperature when the flow of the exhaust gas bypasses the particulate filter, and prevents the heat of the exhaust gas from being absorbed by the exhaust gas passage when the exhaust gas flow is returned to the particulate filter from the bypassing condition, and prevents the exhaust gas at a low temperature from flowing into the particulate filter.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent fine particles remained in a particulate filter from being discharged to the external in the operation of a switching valve in an exhaust emission control device where the exhaust gas is allowed to be alternately switched and passed to exhaust upstream and downstream parts with respect to the particulate filter with a catalyst. SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device comprises the particulate filter 22 carrying an active oxygen emissive agent and capable of temporarily capturing the fine particles in the exhaust gas, and a control means for operating an exhaust switching means for alternately switching a first flow for flowing the exhaust from one side and a second flow for flowing the exhaust gas from the other side. The switching of the exhaust is executed after a temperature rising means is operated when a temperature judging means of the particulate filter 22 judges that the filter 22 does not reach a temperature for oxidizing the fine particles. When it is judged that the particulate filter 22 does not reach the temperature for oxidizing the fine particles, the switching of the exhaust is stopped until a predetermined time has passed after the start of an internal combustion engine 1.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sharply reduce the discharge quantity of unburned HC while securing the stable operation of an engine by nearly fully closing an exhaust control valve, burning the main fuel witch excessive air, and additionally injecting the auxiliary fuel in an expansion stroke or in an exhaust stroke during the operation for reducing the discharge quantity of the unburned HC into the atmosphere. SOLUTION: An exhaust control valve 24 is provided in an exhaust pipe 22 extending from a common exhaust pipe 21 connected with two exhaust manifolds 19, 20 in this four-cylinder diesel engine, and fuels are fed to fuel injection valves 6 provided in individual cylinders via a common rail 27. Whether the discharge quantity of the unburned HC into the atmosphere should be reduced or not is judged during the warmup operation of the engine. If this judgment is YES, the exhaust control valve 24 is nearly fully closed, and the main fuel injected from the fuel injection valves 6 is burned with excessive air. The auxiliary fuel is additionally injected at the predetermined timing in an expansion stroke or in an exhaust stroke, thereby the discharge of the unburned HC is suppressed.
