摘要:
A description follows of an additive for lubricating oils which is a viscosity-index improver, with dispersing properties and stable towards fluoroelastomers, having a greater shear stability and improved rheological behaviour at low temperature. The above additive is prepared by the polymerization of a composition of particular poly(meth)acrylates.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a graft copolymer suitable as a dispersive viscosity index improver in a lubricant oil composition for an EGR engine. SOLUTION: The graft copolymer especially useful as the dispersive viscosity index improver in the lubricant oil composition has a polymer skeleton selected from the group consisting of an olefinic polymer, dienepolymer, vinyl polymer and vinylidene polymer and is grafted with an amine selected from a reaction product or the like of N-p-diphenylamine, 1, 2, 3, 6-tetrahydrophtalimide, 4-anilinophenylmethacrylamide, 4-anilinophenylmaleimide, 4-aninophenylitaconamide, acrylate or methacrylate of 4-hydroxydiphenylamine, p-aminodiphenylamine or p-alkylaminodiphenylamine with glycidyl methacrylate and a mixture thereof, and the graft copolymer is manufactured using a graft condition in solution or bulk in a single step. 摘要:
Continuously variable transmission can be lubricated by supplying to them a composition of (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity; (b) a dispersant; and (c) a detergent. At least one of the dispersant (b) and the detergent (c) is a borated species, and the amount of boron present in the composition is sufficient to impart improved friction and anti-seizure properties to the composition when employed in said transmission.
摘要:
A grafted polyolefin containing one or more of N-vinylimidazole, 4-vinylpyridine, or other ethylenically-unsaturated nitrogen-containing or oxygen-containing graftable monomers grafted to a polyolefin copolymer is disclosed. The grafted polyolefin preferably has a weight average molecular weight of from about 20,000 to about 500,000, a polydispersity of less than about 10, and an ADT value of at least about 8. The grafted polyolefin can be defined as containing more than about 1.2% by weight of grafted monomer on a polyolefin, or as containing at least about 13 moles of graftable monomers per mole of polyolefin, or as having an asphaltene dispersancy test (ADT) value of at least about 8. Also described is a lubricating oil comprising a lubricant base oil and a grafted polyolefin as described above. Also described is a method of making a dispersant viscosity index improver. N-vinyl-imidazole or other ethylenically unsaturated nitrogen-containing and/or oxygen-containing graftable monomers and a graftable polyolefin are reacted with enough of an initiator to graft the monomer to the polyolefin. The initiator and/or graftable monomer is added to the other ingredients, maintained at the reaction temperature, over a period of time. The reaction temperature is maintained at a level high enough to give acceptable reaction times. The N-vinylimidazole and the initiator each can be added at a uniform, relatively slow rate during the reaction.
