    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viscosity modifier superior in viscosity index improving effect and thickening effect, also superior in fluidity at low temperature, and to provide a lubricant composition having such performance.
    SOLUTION: The viscosity modifier contains a modified olefinic polymer obtained by heat-treating an olefinic polymer in the presence of an organic peroxide and/or oxygen, is provided. The lubricant composition comprises 0.1-10 wt.% of the viscosity modifier and 99.9-90 wt.% of a lubricant base material, provide that the total of the lubricant composition is assumed to be 100 wt.%.
