PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for synthesizing 4, 4' disubstituted 4H-cyclopentadithiophene.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for synthesizing a compound having general formula (I), including a step of reacting a compound (II) in the presence of a diprotic acid having a negative pKa, wherein Rand Rare organic groups; X and Y are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, iodine, boronic acid, boronate ester, borane, pseudohalogen and organotin. The method further relates to the compound (II) as a raw material and a compound to be obtained resulting from the ring closure of the compound (II).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel thiophene polymer which enables the manufacturing of a morphologically stable bulk heterojunction solar battery without utilizing a cross-linking process nor using a photoinitiator which enables the materialization of such a cross-linking process.SOLUTION: A blend to use in a photovoltaic device comprises (a) a polymer including a monomeric unit expressed by the following formula and (b) an electron receptor such as a fullerene derivative. [In the formula, L' is selected from a group consisting of L-C(O)O-J, L-C(O)NR'-J, L-OCO-J', L-NR'CO-J', L-SCO-J', L-O-J, L-S-J, L-Se-J, L-NR'-J and L-CN (where L is a straight-chain or branched alkylene group having 1-10 carbon atoms, J is a straight-chain or branched alkyl group having a hydrogen atom or 1-4 carbon atoms, J' is a saturated or unsaturated straight-chain or branched group having 1-10 carbon atoms and including or not including a phenyl structure, and R' is a straight-chain or branched alkyl group having a hydrogen atom or 1-4 carbon atoms).]
