    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially advantageously produce many kinds of organic-inorganic composites having a complete organic modification degree by using variety of organosilicon compounds having low hydrolyzability, easy handling and various organic modifying groups as a silane coupling agent and by a simple elimination reaction such as a dearylation reaction. SOLUTION: The organic-inorganic composite material having a covalent bond formed between an organosilicon compound and an inorganic compound is obtained by reacting an organosilicon compound containing an aromatic ring on a silicon atom with an inorganic oxide and eliminating the aromatic ring. The organosilicon compound having an aromatic ring on the silicon is an organosilicon compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein R 1 -R 5 are each a hydrogen atom or an electron donative group; Y is an organic modifying group; and n is an integer of 1-3).
