PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved liquid chromatographic packing material and a method of producing such a material which does not require a high-temperature heat treatment or graphitization step, and also to provide a method of chromatographic separation that provides improved separation of sample components. SOLUTION: Granulated products are provided and include carbonaceous particles and a carbonized agent or binder. The carbonized agent or binder is preferably a synthetic resin, pitch component or a mixture thereof. There are provided packing materials for packing columns used in chromatographic separation, and methods for chromatographic separation using the materials. In addition, there are provided the methods for providing a variety of different types of carbonaceous products.
