    摘要: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a highly active hydrogenation catalyst comprising copper, without lowering the purity of a solvent upon carrying out liquid phase reduction, and an efficient method of producing an alcohol.
    SOLUTION: The method of producing a hydrogenation catalyst comprising copper by reducing a molded precursor of the hydrogenation catalyst at a temperature of 50-150°C in the presence of a solvent by feeding hydrogen or a mixed gas of hydrogen and an inert gas, includes carrying out the reduction in such a manner that the average reduction rate of the hydrogenation catalyst is made to be 3.0 wt.%/h or lower. The method of producing an alcohol includes producing the hydrogenation catalyst by the method and subsequently, catalytically reducing a carboxylic acid or a carboxylate with hydrogen in the presence of the resulting hydrogenation catalyst.
