PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass plate on which an SiOC film of which light absorption is suppressed has been formed. SOLUTION: A thin film 2 containing silicon, oxygen, and carbon is formed on a glass plate 1. In the thin film 2, the ratio of a silicon-carbon bonding state to the whole silicon bonding state is set at 10-45%, and preferably, the ratio of a metallic silicon bonding state to the whole silicon bonding state is set at 10% or lower. Preferably, the glass plate with the thin film is produced by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method using a raw material gas mixture containing a silicon-containing substance (especially monosilane), an unsaturated hydrocarbon, oxygen, and if necessary carbon dioxide. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent mutual fusion of a glass preform and a mold, and the generation of cracks or breakes in a glass optical element and haze on the surface of the glass optical element when glass preforms of fluorophosphate-based, phosphate-based, boro-phosphate-based and borate-based glass are continuously subjected to precision press molding or glass optical elements are manufactured by continuous precise press molding such that the number of shots is more than 10,000. SOLUTION: The glass preform for press molding is manufactured by a method wherein, after subjecting a preformed glass blank to heat treatment in a dry atmosphere substantially free of hydrogen, a carbon-containing film is formed on the surface of the glass blank.
