Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for isolation, enrichment and/or labelling of miRNA molecules in a biological sample obtained from a patient and for preparation and use of an array or other detection techniques for miRNA analysis.SOLUTION: A method comprises a step of producing miRNA expression profiles from the above sample and a step of comparing the above expression profiles with miRNA expression profiles in a non-cancerous sample, where on the basis that the expression level of the miRNA in the biological sample obtained from the patient is increased compared with the expression level of the miRNA in the non-cancerous sample, the biological sample obtained from the patient is identified as a sample derived from a cancer patient.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method and a composition for the diagnosis, prognostication and treatment of a cancer and/or myeloproliferative disorder.SOLUTION: The method for the diagnosis or prognostication of a cancer and/or myeloproliferative disorder includes (i) determining the level of at least one miR gene product in a sample from a subject, and (ii) comparing the level of the at least one miR gene product in the sample with a control. The method for treating the cancer and/or myeloproliferative disorder of the subject includes administering, to the subject, an effective amount of the at least one miR gene product or an isolated variant or biologically-active fragment thereof.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and composition comprising a new signaling probe for analyzing or isolating cells or generating cell lines expressing one or more RNAs. SOLUTION: There is provided the method for isolating the cells or generating the cell lines using the signaling probe that produces a signal upon hybridization to a target sequence. As other methods for utilizing the signaling probe, there are provided: a method for quantifying the level of RNA expression; a method for identifying genetic recombination events in living cells; and a method for generating a transgenic animal using the isolated cells. Furthermore, there is provided a protease probe.
