    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cold-cathode fluorescent discharge lamp of high quality and high reliability, by shortening discharge starting time of the lamp through reduction of a volume of a sputtering phenomenon, and by improving on high luminance, long life as well as darkness starting characteristic through maintenance of stable discharge over a long period of time, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same.
    SOLUTION: The cold-cathode fluorescent discharge lamp 1 has a cesium zirconate film 10 coated on an inner and an outer walls of a cup-shaped electrode 3, and also has a cesium film 11 with the cesium zirconate film 10 activated coated on a phosphor film 4 in the vicinity of the cup-shaped electrode 3, so that electron emission properties at the inner wall face of the cup-shaped electrode 3 are changed during lighting to expand contact properties to the cesium zirconate film 10, which leads to reduction of sputtering of a nickel material constituting the cup-shaped electrode 3.
