The liquid crystal display includes a first substrate and a second substrate, a thin film transistor formed on the first substrate, a color filter formed on the thin film transistor, an overcoat formed on the color filter and having a contact hole, a pixel electrode formed on the overcoat and connected to the thin film transistor through the contact hole, and a liquid crystal layer formed between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the overcoat except at the contact hole has the same planar shape as the pixel electrode. Accordingly, deterioration of the liquid crystal layer may be prevented in the liquid crystal display and a pattern of a pixel electrode may be easily formed.
