摘要: The present invention relates to an LED traffic signal light containing numerous LEDs and a voltage compensation circuit which allows the traffic light to operate over a wide range of input power voltages, while generating sufficient light intensity to control traffic at a highway intersection. The voltage compensation circuit achieves these objectives without substantially increasing the power consumption, overall cost, or failure rate of the LED traffic signal light. In the preferred embodiment, the voltage compensation circuit disables or rearranges a first and then a second set of LEDs in the traffic light, as the input power voltage drops below a first and then a second threshold voltage, so that the remaining LEDs will be driven by an increased current and generate a greater overall light intensity than if all of the LEDs were driven by the decreased current that would result from the decreased input power voltage. Also in the preferred embodiment, the LEDs are mounted on a printed circuit board, in a configuration generally corresponding to the shape of the traffic signal light.

摘要: A method and apparatus for adding new learning tasks to an incremental supervised learner provide a flexible incremental representation of all training examples encountered, thereby permitting state representations for new learning tasks to take advantage of incremental training already completed by encoding all past training examples as negative examples for a hypothetical learning task. The state representation of the hypothetical learning task is copied as the initial state representation for a new learning task to be initiated, is initialized with negative training examples of all previously presented training examples, thereby permitting the learning task to incorporate the previous examples efficiently.

摘要: A membrane keyboard is comprised of a dielectric substrate and an overlying deflectable membrane layer separated by a spacer. A plurality of contact poles are located on the dielectric substrate with an electrically conductive common contact area located on the flexible membrane. A portion of the flexible membrane is locally stiffened and, in a preferred embodiment, provided with a ridge extending away from a portion of the membrane towards the contact poles. Upon actuation of the switch, the stiffened portion of the membrane ensures simultaneity of contact between the common contact area on the membrane and the contact poles on the substrate. Preferred embodiments utilize a generally circular ridge in the deflectable membrane cooperating with interdigitated contact poles.

摘要: A multiple bandmill (10) for sawing a log (L) moving past that multiple bandmill. This multiple bandmill includes two pairs of bandmills (20, 22 and 24, 26) located at a common longitudinal position with respect to a log being cut. The bandmills comprising the multiple bandmill are slanted with respect to vertical in the longitudinal direction. The bandsaw blades (50, 52 and 54, 56) of each pair of bandmills within the multiple bandmill cross each other in a X-pattern in the log cutting region (30). One bandmill (20, 26) of each pair is located within the area defined by the other bandmill (22, 24). All four sawlines (12, 14, 16, 18) are made at the same time at a single longitudinal location on the log.

摘要: The data mining platform comprises a plurality of system modules, each formed from a plurality of components. Each module has an input data component, a data analysis engine for processing the input data, an output data component for outputting the results of the data analysis, and a web server to access and monitor the other modules within the unit and to provide communication to other units. Each module processes a different type of data, for example, a first module processes microarray (gene expression) data while a second module processes biomedical literature on the Internet for information supporting relationships between genes and diseases and gene functionality. In the preferred embodiment, the data analysis engine is a kernel-based learning machine, and in particular, one or more support vector machines (SVMs). The data analysis engine includes a pre-processing function for feature selection, for reducing the amount of data to be processed by selecting the optimum number of attributes, or “features”, relevant to the information to be discovered.

摘要: A method and apparatus for communicating accumulated state information between internal and external tasks in a supervised learning system. A supervised learning system encodes state information for a hypothetical learning task on initialization. This hypothetical learning task state information indicates that no training instances have been received. During the supervised learning, training instances are presented to the supervised learner. The training instances are encoded with feature vector and target value information. For each task name paired with a non-default target value, the learner initializes a new learning task by copying the hypothetical learning task state representation for use as the state representation for the new learning task. Predictors are then produced for all learning tasks, except the hypothetical learning task. The new training instance is used to update all learning tasks as specified in the target vector. The new training instance is then used.to update the hypothetical learning task state representation as a negative example. Further training instances are handled similarly, new learning tasks are started based on the examination of the sparse target vector for task name, target value pairs which match received training instance target values and for which tasks have not yet been started.
