The anti-skid device is intended for use on a front-wheel drive vehicle having a braking system consisting of a master cylinder connected to a first and a second hydraulic circuit each connected to the operating cylinders of the brakes of a respective pair of diagonally opposed wheels, of the motor vehicle. The device comprises:a braking sensor,a sensor of the average speed of the front wheels of the motor vehicle,a sensor of the speed of rotation of at least one rear wheel of the motor vehicle,a sensor of the steering angle of the wheels,two electrically controlled changeover valves inserted in the first and the second hydraulic circuit respectively, and which can, upon receiving a command signal, allow at least partial reduction of the braking force of the respective wheels to which they are connected, andan electronic control and command unit which controls the operation of said valves in dependence upon the signals supplied by said sensors.

Each of a plurality of motor vehicles is equipped with a transmitter (1) and a receiver (2) for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic or pressure waves, detector devices (30-40) arranged to output electrical signals indicative of predetermined travelling conditions of the motor vehicle, signalling devices (6) for providing the user with perceptible messages or signals, and an electronic processing and control unit (3). The latter is arranged to assume automatically a first mode of operation when the detector devices (30-40) indicate the occurrence of one of the said travelling conditions; in this case the unit (3) automatically activates the transmitter (1) which transmits signals of a first type containing information indicative of the travelling condition detected; a second mode of operation when the receiver (2) picks up signals of the first type emitted by the transmitter (1) of another motor vehicle, in which case the unit (3) activates automatically the transmitter (1) to transmit signals of a second type, the information content of which includes the information content of the signals of the first type picked up by the receiver (2). The processing and control unit (3) is also arranged to activate the signalling devices (6) automatically each time the receiver (2) picks up signals of the second type in order to provide the user with signals or messages corresponding to the information content of the signals of the second type picked up by the receiver.

The device comprises electrical speed sensors for providing electrical signals indicative of the speed of rotation of at least one driven wheel of the motor vehicle, the speed of rotation of the engine, and the speed of the motor vehicle, a sensor for indicating the condition of braking of the motor vehicle, and an electronic monitoring and control unit connected thereto. The electronic monitoring and control unit is arranged to actuate the electric starter motor of the internal combustion engine when, as a result of "panic" braking, the driven wheels become locked, the engine stalls while the vehicle is still in motion, and the braking force has been at least partially reduced. Thus the driven wheels are turned again and, consequently, the stability and correct handling of the motor vehicle are regained.
