    摘要： A tool for applying flanged pierce nuts to a workpiece panel by forcing the pilot portion of the nut through a workpiece supported on an underlying apertured die, the pilot portion cutting a slug from the workpiece which is then discharged through the die aperture. The tool is particularly featured by a housing in which the punch reciprocates in line with a first opening through which successive pierce nuts are moved by the punch to the workpiece. Additional side openings communicate with lateral portions of the first opening normally occupied by the nut flanges. Cam means are provided in the housing adjacent the intersections of the nut passage and side openings for ejecting nut debris, comprising material and flanges deformed and severed from preceding nuts, through the side openings in response to movements of the tool toward the die. This prevents the buildup of such debris within the nut passage opening and protects the housing against bursting forces.

    摘要： A method for rapidly attaching pierce nuts to a sheet which does not require completely new tooling for different designs of sheets. The nuts are made from a strip of metal and are complete except that they are left attached to one another and are thus predictably oriented. They are supplied to the attaching mechanism in rolled strip form. The attaching mechanism is a standardized unit enclosed in a single housing which automatically locates the end nut of the strip over the workpiece sheet, severs the nut from the strip, pierces the sheet with the nut and clinches the nut to the sheet while, if desired, embossing the sheet at the opening made therein by the nut. As many such standarized nut attaching units may be used simultaneously in a single punch press as are required, the tooling to be used comprising mainly means for locating the units relative to the sheet in the punch press.

    摘要： Disclosed is a tool for advancing pierce nuts to a position under a punch which is to attach the nuts to a sheet of metal. The tool is constructed in a manner to advance the nuts to such position upon the upward or return stroke of the punch rather than upon the power stroke thereof, the power for advancing the nuts being derived from a preloaded resilient member incorporated into the tool. A feature of the tool is the locating of the nut under the punch by indexing from the trailing edge of the nut rather than from the leading edge to avoid the inadvertent cutting of fractions of successive nuts should the nuts be initially improperly positioned under the punch. Another feature is the narrowness of the tool housing which permits the simultaneous application of two or more closely spaced nuts to a sheet of metal.

    摘要： An anchor housing with a chain tiedown winch is slidable along an upwardly open channel fastened to the side of a flat bed trailer. The housing is movable to any position along the trailer deck where the winch is needed to secure a load on the deck. The housing has an elongated flange slidably engaging the underside of a downwardly facing track in one of the channel walls to anchor the housing against chain tension and enable it to slide along the channel. A pawl carried by the housing, engages one of several notches in the channel to hold it when endwise movement is not wanted. The winch is offset horizontally within the housing, toward the channel wall which has the downwardly facing track.

    摘要： Securement apparatus having a movable pedestal alternately usable either as a retractable twist lock or a chain tiedown winch. It is adapted to be used, for example, along the sides of vehicles such as flatbed trucks or railway flatcars, for releasably locking a standard container, or a nonstandard load such as a carton, a pallet or a machine packed for shipment. The device is movable along the side of the vehicle for use on a wide variety and combination of loads. The twist lock is elevatable above the level of the vehicle deck to secure standard containers, and is retractable below the deck level when a flatbed is required. It is readily movable for use at any selected position along the deck and is easily convertible for use as a chain tiedown for nonstandard cargo. When the twist lock is retracted, it frees space through which a tiedown chain can be trained and tensioned.
