A scroll-type fluid displacement apparatus, in particular, a compressor unit is disclosed. The unit includes a housing with a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port. A fixed scroll with first end plate and first spiral element is fixedly disposed in the housing. An orbiting scroll with a second end plate and a second spiral element is disposed for orbiting motion in the housing. The first and second spiral elements interfit with one another at an angular offset to make a plurality of line contacts to define at least one pair of sealed off fluid pockets. A drive pin extends from an inner end of a drive shaft. The orbiting scroll has a boss which rotatably supports a bushing. An eccentric hole is formed in the bushing and the drive pin is received within this hole. The center of the drive pin is located on an opposite side to the center of the drive shaft with regard to a straight line, which passes through the center of the bushing and is perpendicular to a connecting line passing through the center of the drive shaft and the center of the bushing. The center of the drive pin also is beyond the connecting line in the direction of rotation of the drive shaft. The bushing has a balance weight for cancelling a centrifugal force which arises because of the orbiting motion of the scroll member and bushing. Dynamic balance is accomplished by the use of a pair of balance weights affixed to the drive shaft for generating a moment of the same amount, but opposite in direction, to the moment generated by a force due to the interaction of the centrifugal force of the orbiting parts and the first balance weight.

The fixed and orbiting members interfit to make a plurality of line contacts to define sealed off fluid pockets. A driving mechanism, including a drive shaft, is disposed within the housing and is connected to the orbiting member to effect orbital motion of the orbiting member upon rotation of the drive shaft. The drive shaft is rotatably supported by the front end plate through an angular bearing disposed within the front end plate. The pressure cone apex of the angular bearing coincides with the driving point of the orbiting member. A thrust race is disposed on one axial end surface of the angular bearing, and a ring plate is disposed within the front end plate facing the thrust race at a predetermined axial distance. A thrust bearing is placed in the axial gap between the thrust race and the ring plate to carry the thrust force from the angular bearing.

A rotation preventing/thrust bearing device for an orbiting member type fluid displacement apparatus prevents rotation of an orbiting member during orbital motion and carries axial loads from the orbiting member. The rotation preventing/thrust bearing device of the present invention includes a fixed ring which is attached to a housing and an orbit ring which faces the fixed ring and is attached to an end surface of the orbiting piston. These rings have a plurality of corresponding pockets which face each other. Each pocket on the fixed ring faces a pocket on the orbiting ring corresponding in size, pitch and radial distance from the center of the respective rings. A predetermined number of these pockets function as rotation prevention pockets; these rotation prevention pockets have a diameter or size slightly smaller than the remaining pockets. These rotation preventing pockets cooperate with spherical balls, one of which is placed within each facing pair of corresponding pockets, to prevent rotation of the orbiting piston. Thus, while all the spherical balls carry axial loads, only a predetermined number interact with the pockets to prevent rotation of the orbiting member. This predetermined number is greater than or equal to three but smaller than the total number of balls and pockets.

Both wrap means interfit at an angular and radial offset to make a plurality of line contacts to define at least one pair of symmetrically disposed, sealed off fluid pockets. The first end plate means is formed with two holes which are placed at symmetrical positions to be simultaneously closed by the axial end surface of the second wrap means. These two holes are connected to one another by a passage means. The pressure in the sealed off fluid pockets is thereby equalized at the time the pockets are sealed.

Disclosed is a technique of joining two cable racks together in a longitudinal direction thereof. A splice plate is used which has two insertion holes each formed at a position corresponding to a first one of two joint holes in each of adjacent ends of each of two longitudinally-aligned pairs of primary beams of two cable racks, and two lock protrusions each formed at a position corresponding to the other second joint hole, in a manner engageable with the second joint hole. The adjacent ends of the longitudinally-aligned pair of primary beams are joined together by means of engagement between the lock protrusions of the splice plate and the second joint holes of the adjacent ends of the longitudinally-aligned pair of primary beams, and fastening between two bolt and two nuts through the first insertion holes and the insertion holes of the splice plate. Thus, two cable racks can be joined together by performing a bolting operation only at a single position in each of the adjacent ends of the longitudinally-aligned pair of primary beams. This makes it possible to reduce by half a time of joining operation while suppressing a trouble in the joining operation.

A slant plate type compressor with a capacity or displacement adjusting mechanism is disclosed. The compressor includes a housing having a cylinder block provided with a plurality of cylinders and a crank chamber. A piston is slidably fitted within each of the cylinders and is reciprocated by a drive mechanism which includes a slant plate having a surface with an adjustable incline angle. The incline angle is controlled according to the pressure in the crank chamber. The pressure in the crank chamber is controlled by a control mechanism which comprises a first passageway linking the crank chamber and the suction chamber, and a valve device which controls the closing and opening of the first passageway. The valve device includes a valve element which directly controls the closing and opening of the first passageway, a first valve control device which controls the position of the valve element in response to pressure in the crank chamber, and a second valve control device which include a second passageway linking the crank chamber and the discharge chamber and an actuator disposed in the second passageway. The second valve control device controls the predetermined crank pressure operating point of the first valve control device. The operation of the second valve control device is controlled in response to changes in the thermodynamic characteristics of the refrigerant circuit so as to open and close the second passageway.

A rotation preventing/thrust bearing device for an orbiting member of a fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. The rotation preventing/thrust bearing device includes a discrete fixed portion, a discrete orbital portion and bearing elements. The fixed and orbital portions each include an annular race and a ring which covers the end surface of the race. Both rings have a plurality of holes or pockets in an axial direction. The radius of the fixed pockets is greater than the radius of the orbital pockets. The bearing elements, one of which is placed between each opposing pair of pockets, roll at radius R1 with regard to the fixed race and roll at radius R2 with regard to the orbital race. The sum of rolling radii R1 and R2 is substantially equal to the radius of the orbiting member. Rotation of the orbiting member is thereby prevented by the bearing elements which interact with the edges of the opposing pairs of pockets and the bearing elements carry axial thrust load from the orbiting member to the fixed race. By setting radius R2 smaller than radius R1, while maintaining the sum of these radii substantially equal to the orbit radius, the size and weight of the orbital race and the orbital ring can be reduced, which in turn reduces the overall weight of the orbital member of the fluid displacement apparatus. A reduction in the weight of the orbital member simplifies the construction of the apparatus by reducing the size of balance weights.

The rotation preventing/thrust bearing device includes a fixed portion, an orbital portion and bearing elements. The bearing elements are cylinder shaped and placed between facing pairs of pockets formed in the fixed and orbital portion. The bearing elements are axially slidable in the pockets. The outer peripheral surface of the bearing elements contacts the opposing inner walls of the pockets, whereby rotation of the orbiting piston is prevented and the axial thrust load from the orbiting piston is carried through cylindrical shaped elements.

A plurality of pockets is formed through the sliding ring and bearing elements are retained within the pockets for transmitting axial thrust load from the orbiting scroll member to the fixed ring.
