    Abstract: Unique systems, methods, techniques and apparatuses of a power converter are disclosed. One exemplary embodiment is a resonant power converter comprising a DC bus, a primary leg, an auxiliary leg, and an LC resonant circuit. The auxiliary leg is coupled between DC bus and includes a first auxiliary switch and a second auxiliary switch coupled at an auxiliary midpoint connection. The LC resonant circuit includes an air-core resonant inductor and a resonant capacitor coupled between the auxiliary midpoint connection and a primary midpoint connection of the primary leg. A controller is structured to control the first and second auxiliary switch and the first and second primary switch so as to provide resonant operation of the LC resonant circuit effective to provide a substantially zero voltage condition across the first and second primary switch while toggling the switches.

    Abstract: A device may include a core structure having low permeability characteristics and defining a first cross-sectional area, a coil member including one or more loops that winds around the core structure and defines a second cross-sectional area. The second cross-sectional area is between 1.2 to 5 times larger than the first cross-sectional area. The device may include a frame member positioned around the core structure or a portion thereof and the coil member may wind around the frame member to define the second cross-sectional area. The core structure may be composed of a low permeability magnetic material having a low relative permeability. The core structure may be composed of a high permeability magnetic material and the core structure may further include an air gap structure to enable the core structure to demonstrate the low permeability characteristics.

One exemplary embodiment is a zero-voltage transition PWM resonant converter comprising a DC bus, a first switching device, a second switching device, a resonant tank circuit, an auxiliary circuit having a flying capacitor and a plurality of auxiliary switching devices, and a controller. The controller is structured to control the first switching device, the second switching device, and the plurality of auxiliary switching devices to provide resonant operation of the tank circuit effective to provide a substantially zero voltage condition across the first switching device when turning the first switching device on or off and to provide a substantially zero voltage condition across the second switching device when turning the second switching device on or off.
