Abstract: A drug delivery device and method of using the same may include a housing having an opening and a drug storage container including a delivery member with an insertion end configured to extend at least partially through the opening. The drug storage container may be coupled with the housing such as to substantially prevent relative movement therebetween. A guard may be positioned adjacent to the opening and operably coupled with the plunger biasing member such that a relative movement between the guard and the housing permits release of a plunger biasing member to urge a plunger in to expel a drug from the drug storage container. A lock component may be configured to resist the relative movement between the guard and the housing until the lock component is released by a user force, whereafter the user force drives the housing and the drug storage container toward an injection site.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a plunger of a drug delivery device includes forming a plunger body. The method includes loading the plunger body into a cavity of a first molding tool of a molding system. The cavity is at least partially defined by a first molding portion and a second molding portion. The method includes coupling a second molding tool to the first molding tool to form a plurality of channels defined by grooves in the first and second molding tools, and injecting molten plastic into the plurality of channels to form an overmolded plunger body. The overmolded plunger body includes a head coupled to the first end of the plunger body and a foot coupled to the second end of the plunger body. The foot is at least partially coupled to the inner wall and the head is coupled to the outer wall of the plunger body.

Abstract: A drug delivery device may include a housing having an opening and a drug storage container including a delivery member with an insertion end configured to extend at least partially through the opening. A biasing member may initially be retained in an energized state, and may be released to drive a plunger to expel a drug from the drug storage container. The plunger may be configured to selectively rotate from an initial rotational position to a second rotational position under a biasing force exerted by the biasing member, and translate linearly in a distal direction to drive the stopper through the drug storage container after rotating from the initial rotational position to the second rotational position. A releaser member may have an initial position wherein the releaser member retains the biasing member in the energized state, and a second position wherein the releaser member generates an audible end-of-dose signal.

The device may also include a guard moveably positioned adjacent to the opening and a plunger having a generally cylindrical body portion extending along a longitudinal axis of the container and at least one flange extending radially outwardly from the body portion, wherein the plunger is moveable toward the distal end of the container to expel a drug through the delivery member. The device may further include a plunger biasing member configured to urge the plunger toward the distal end of the container and a releaser member defining a guide configured to receive the at least one flange and an indicator configured to generate an audible signal indicating an end of drug delivery.
