Abstract: A drug delivery device and method of using the same may include a housing having an opening and a drug storage container including a delivery member with an insertion end configured to extend at least partially through the opening. The drug storage container may be coupled with the housing such as to substantially prevent relative movement therebetween. A guard may be positioned adjacent to the opening and operably coupled with the plunger biasing member such that a relative movement between the guard and the housing permits release of a plunger biasing member to urge a plunger in to expel a drug from the drug storage container. A lock component may be configured to resist the relative movement between the guard and the housing until the lock component is released by a user force, whereafter the user force drives the housing and the drug storage container toward an injection site.

Abstract: A drug delivery device includes a housing, an injection assembly at least partially disposed in the housing, a shield, and a drive assembly at least partially disposed in the housing and coupled with the injection assembly and the shield. The shield has an extended position where at least a proximal end thereof extends a distance beyond a proximal end of the housing. The injection assembly includes a needle or cannula having an endpoint. Upon moving the shield axially towards the distal end of the housing a predetermined distance, a retraction profile commences whereby the drive assembly administers a medicament via the injection assembly. A peak resistance force is exerted within approximately the first 12 mm of axial movement of the shield.

Abstract: Drug delivery devices, finger-grip elements for use with syringes, and related methods are disclosed. A drug delivery device may include a syringe and a finger-grip element. The syringe may include a barrel, a barrel flange extending radially outwardly with respect to a longitudinal axis of the barrel, and a plunger moveably disposed within the barrel. The finger-grip element may be coupled with the barrel flange. The finger-grip element may have a first distally facing surface having a first contour configured to: inhibit or prevent at least a first finger of a user from moving in a radially outward direction with respect to the longitudinal axis during use of the syringe to deliver a drug, and/or exert a first reaction force on at least the first finger of the user in a direction parallel or substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis during use of the syringe to deliver the drug.

Abstract: A drug delivery device including a housing, a drug storage container, and a removable cap is provided. The removable cap may be configured to be removably coupled with the housing such that the removable cap has a storage position where the removable cap is coupled with the housing and at least partially covering an opening in the housing and a removed position where the removable cap is not coupled with the housing. The removable cap may include an outer portion, an inner portion, and a gap separating at least a portion of the inner portion and at least a portion of the outer portion such that the at least a portion of the outer portion is allowed to bend with respect to the at least a portion of the inner portion if the at least a portion of the outer portion is subjected to an external force. Additionally or alternatively, the removable cap may be configured such that an external force applied to the removable cap induces at least one bending moment in a proximal end and/or a distal end of the removable cap.

Abstract: A rotatable drive mechanism for a drug delivery device may include a lead screw having a distal end, a proximal end, and external threads, a bearing, and a ball screw driver having a threaded aperture wherein the threaded aperture is configured to rotatably engage with the external threads of the lead screw. The mechanism may further include a biasing device disposed between the bearing and the ball screw driver generating an axial drive force, and an activation device configured to release the biasing device and allowing the biasing device to expand from a compressed position to an extended position through which the axial drive force of the biasing device causes the ball screw driver to axially move toward the distal end of the lead screw and rotate the lead screw such that a threaded engagement between the lead screw and the ball screw driver bears the axial drive force.
