    Abstract: An electronic device may include an electronic display to display an image based on scaled image data and variable scaling circuitry to generate the scaled image data. Generating the scaled image data may include receiving input pixel values in a first resolution and determining multiple tap point locations based on a scaling ratio to be applied to the input pixel values. Generating the scaled image data may also include determining weighting coefficients based on a scaling curve and the tap point locations, and weighting the input pixel values based on the weighting coefficients. The variable scaling circuitry may generate the scaled image data at a second resolution based on the aggregation of the weighted input pixel values.

    Abstract: A device may include an electronic display having multiple illuminators that generate light at a first wavelength and a quantum dot layer that converts a portion of the light from the first wavelength to a second wavelength. The first wavelength may vary based on a brightness level of the illuminator, and the amount of light generated by the illuminator that is converted to the second wavelength may vary based on the first wavelength. The electronic display may also include a display pixel to regulate the light emitted from the electronic display at a pixel location based on compensated image data. The device may also include image processing circuitry to determine a luminance contribution to the light from the illuminator for the pixel location, determine per color component compensation values based on the luminance contribution, and generate the compensated image data based on the per color component compensation values.

    Abstract: Systems and techniques described herein may correct for chromatic deviations due to ambient dependent color perception in low-light conditions and/or bright-light conditions. Processing circuitry may determine a first and a second strength parameter based on an ambient brightness value, an intended display brightness value, one or more vectors, and a two-dimensional look up table. If the first strength parameter is greater than zero, then the processing circuitry may apply chromatic corrections based on luminance and chrominance compensation functions in an opponent color space. For example, per-pixel gains may be determined based on global curves and applied as a function of pixel value (e.g., luminance component). If the first strength parameter is less than zero and the second strength parameter is greater than zero, the processing circuitry may determine chromatic corrections based on a three-dimensional lookup table that may be programmable based on a strength parameter and/or a gain value.

    Abstract: This disclosure is directed towards tone mapping systems and methods that preserve contrast of fine features of an image and avoid brightening monotonic regions of the image. To preserve contrast and avoiding brightening of the monotonic regions, an image processing circuitry may include hardware that enables determining pixel statistics of an image, generating a tone mapping that is configured to adjust the color values of pixels in the image, and applying the tone mapping to at least the low frequency component of the image to produce an output image where the contrast of the fine details is preserved. In addition, the image processing circuitry may include hardware that enables adjusting the tone mapping based on variance bins in a histogram of pixel values and applying the adjusted tone mapping to produce an output image where the monotonic regions are not brightened.
