Abstract: This is directed to self-shielded components and methods for making the same. A self-shielded component can include an electromagnetic interference (EMI) shield that contains circuitry within a shielded space defined by the EMI shield. Self-shielding can be achieved by interfacing a conformal shield layer to a ground layer disposed on or within a substrate of the self-shielded component. The combination of the conformal shield layer and the around layer can form a boundary of the shielded space that envelops circuitry requiring shielding. This enables the self-shielded component to be mounted to a circuit board without requiring a shield can or other processing to impart EMI shielding. In addition, the self-shielded components include the benefits of EMI shielding while simultaneously decreasing space requirements.

Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with wireless circuitry. The wireless circuitry may include one or more antennas and first and second radio-frequency modules. The device may include a conductive housing having dielectric antenna windows. The first module may generate first millimeter wave signals in a first communications band. The antenna may transmit the first signals to external equipment through the dielectric window at a transmit power level. The antenna may receive control signals in the second communications band from the external equipment through the dielectric window. The first and second communications bands may include frequencies greater than 10 GHz. The second module may pass the received control signals to the first module to adjust the transmit power level of the first signals transmitted by the antenna. A duplexer may be interposed between the modules and the antenna for isolating the first and second communications bands.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to systems, methods, and apparatus for limiting or throttling an activity of an accessory device communicatively coupled to a computing device. The activity of the accessory device is limited or throttled in order to reduce electromagnetic interference and improve signal quality of a wireless communication in which the computing device is participating. In some embodiments, a decision to throttle can be based on battery charge level of the computing device. For example, in some embodiments, the accessory device is an accessory battery charger configured to provide power to the computing device when a power outlet is not immediately available. If the signal quality of a phone call from the computing device is diminished or the user is in an area of low signal coverage, the accessory battery charger can be limited or throttled in order to prevent interference between the accessory battery charger and computing device.
