Abstract: Embodiments are presented herein of, inter alia, systems, devices, and associated methods for allocating and distributing power management budgets for classes of tasks being executed by a computer system, based on thermal feedback loops. Specifically, multiple quality-of-service (QoS) tiers may be defined, and each QoS tier may be allocated power based on a different set of thermal feedback loops. QoS tiers including tasks that are invisible to the user may be mitigated more aggressively than QoS tiers including tasks that are visibly supporting user operations.

Abstract: A system includes one or more memory circuits and one or more sensor circuits that are separate from the memory circuits. A temperature estimation circuit estimates a temperature of the memory circuits based on sensor measurements from the sensor circuits and based on an empirically-derived relationship between the temperature and the sensor measurements. The temperature estimate is finer in granularity than a temperature indication provided by the memory circuits. For example, a given temperature indication value covers a range of 5 degrees Celsius, while the temperature estimate may be any integer temperature value or a decimal temperature value (e.g., to tenths or hundredths of degrees C.). A power control circuit in the system uses the temperature estimate to control a rate at which one or more agent circuits in the system generate memory requests to the memory circuit, which may control the temperature of the memory circuits.

A power budget allocation subsystem may include a plurality of feedback branches having different associated time constants. Power usage clients with slower power response times may be provided power budgets based on a feedback branch having an associated longer time constant, while power usage clients with faster power response times may be provided with power budgets based on a feedback branch having an associated shorter time constant. The power budgets may be determined in the feedback branches based on power budgeting policies weighting the power budget of each subsystem relative to total power mitigation.

Abstract: Communication device may include a transmitter and a receiver respectively coupled to one or more antennas to communicate (e.g., transmit or receive signals) with a base station. The communication device may receive an operating characteristic of a cellular modem within the communication device operating in a first cellular configuration and determine if the operating characteristic are greater than a threshold. The operating characteristic may include power and/or temperature. The threshold may include a power budget and/or a temperature threshold. If the operating characteristic is greater than the threshold, then the communication device may determine a control effort value based on the operating characteristic and the threshold. The communication device may map the control effort value to a second cellular configuration, which may correspond to reduced operating characteristics in comparison to the first cellular configuration. The communication device may then cause the cellular modem to operate in the second cellular configuration.
