Abstract: The invention relates a resin composition containing a polymer matting agent, that improves the aesthetic appearance of an article formed by Material Extrusion 3D printing. The composition contains 30-99.9 wt % thermoplastic resin and 0.1-50 wt % of one or more spherical or near-spherical polymeric matting agents (PMAs) such as Altuglas Acryperl® beads from Arkema. Objects 3D printed from the composition have hidden layer lines (a.k.a. “build lines”) and is more uniform in appearance, compared to an object printed from the same thermoplastic resin without PMAs.

Abstract: The invention relates to fluoropolymer filament for use in 3-D printing, and 3-D printed fluoropolymer articles having low warpage, excellent chemical resistance, excellent water resistance, flame resistance, and good mechanical integrity. Additionally, the articles of the invention have good shelf life without the need for special packaging. In particular, the invention relates to filament, 3-D printed polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) articles, and in particular material extrusion 3-D printing. The articles may be formed from PVDF homopolymers, copolymers, such as KYNAR® resins from Arkema, as well as polymer blends with appropriately defined low shear melt viscosity. The PVDF may optionally be a filled PVDF formulation. The physical properties of the 3-D printed articles can be maximized and warpage minimized by optimizing processing parameters.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use of a compatible thermoplastic material (film, sheet, or raft) as the base sheet or layer for 3-D printing an article. The use of the base film provides a means of printing a large article, and of reducing warpage by printing directly on the film. The printed article adheres to the film better than to traditional printer surfaces (glass, metal, glue, or reusable films), because the printed article and film weld together by forming chain entanglements, due to being compatible, miscible, or semi-miscible in the melt.

Abstract: The invention relates to 3D printed parts made with thermoplastic polymers having a low stiffening temperature. 3D printed parts of the invention have very good Z layer adhesion, have a high elongation at break in the Z direction, preferably of more than 50 percent, and have at least an 80 percent ratio of Z to XY stress at yield or at break. The resulting part may be nearly isotropic—having similar mechanical properties in the XY and Z print directions. The excellent layer adhesion makes the resultant printed part more robust—able to withstand many cycles of use. Certain polymers of the invention produce printed parts that have a very low haze, and are nearly transparent.

Abstract: The invention relates to thermoplastic filament for use in 3-D printers, in which the core of the filament is non-solid or mono-filament. The filament may contain a multitude of small micro-voids, (a micro foam), be a foam-core structure, be hollow, or have a monofilament core. The filament of the invention is especially useful with crystalline and semi-crystalline polymers, and reduces the negative effect of filament voids, formed by shrinkage during the cooling of the filament.
