Abstract: The presently claimed invention provides a layered three-way catalyst composition for purification of exhaust gases from internal combustion engines; said catalyst comprises a first layer comprising i) palladium supported on at least one alumina component and at least one oxygen storage component; and ii) barium oxide; wherein said first layer is essentially free of strontium, and a second layer comprising: i) rhodium supported on at least one zirconia component and/or alumina component; ii) strontium oxide and/or barium oxide; and iii) optionally, palladium supported on at least one alumina component. The presently claimed invention also provides a process for preparing the layered three-way catalyst composition which involves a technique such as incipient wetness impregnation technique(A); co-precipitation technique (B); or co-impregnation technique(C). The process includes preparing a first layer; preparing a second layer; and depositing the second layer on the first layer followed by calcination. The presently claimed invention further provides a a layered three-way catalytic article in which the three-way catalyst composition is deposited on a substrate in a layered fashion and its preparation.

Abstract: This disclosure is directed to catalyst compositions, catalytic articles for purifying exhaust gas emissions and methods of making and using the same. In particular, the disclosure relates to a catalytic article including a catalytic material on a substrate, wherein the catalytic material has a first layer and a second layer. The first layer includes a platinum group metal (PGM) component impregnated on a porous support material; and the second layer includes a rhodium component impregnated on a support material, wherein the support material is a composite material including zirconia doped with baria, alumina, or combinations thereof, wherein the zirconia-based support material includes zirconia in an amount from about 80 to about 99 wt. %.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides SCR catalyst compositions capable of reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in engine exhaust. The catalyst compositions include a reducible metal oxide support containing ceria, one or more transition metal oxides as a redox promotor; and an oxide of niobium, tungsten, silicon, molybdenum, or a combination thereof as an acidic promotor. The redox promotor and the acid promotor are both supported on the reducible metal oxide support. Further provided are SCR catalyst articles coated with such compositions, processes for preparing such catalyst compositions and articles, an exhaust gas treatment system including such catalyst articles, and methods for reducing NOx in an exhaust gas stream using such catalyst articles and systems.

Abstract: The presently claimed invention provides an automotive catalyst comprising a platinum group metal selected from palladium, platinum, rhodium and any combination thereof; metal oxide nanoparticles; and a carrier, wherein the platinum group metal and the metal oxide nanoparticles are homogeneously dispersed on the carrier such as alumina component. The metal oxide nanoparticles have a D90 diameter in the range of 1.0 nm to 50 nm. The presently claimed invention also provides a layered catalytic article comprising catalyst comprising at least one platinum group metal; metal oxide nanoparticles; and a carrier. The presently claimed invention also provides a process for preparing the catalyst and the catalytic article, and a method of treating a gaseous exhaust stream comprising contacting the stream with the catalyst or catalytic article.

Abstract: Described are three-way conversion (TWC) catalytic articles effective to abate hydrocarbons (HCs), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from an engine exhaust gas containing phosphorous impurities. The disclosed catalytic article has a layered catalytic material, wherein the first layer of the catalytic material is disposed directly on the substrate and a second layer is disposed on top of the first layer. The second layer includes phosphorus resistant materials that prevent catalytic poisoning of the catalytic article by the phosphorous impurities. In particular, the second layer includes a phosphorus trap material having an alkaline earth metal component and a rhodium component impregnated on a phosphorus-resistant support material.
