摘要: Track belts designed to fit circumferentially around a pneumatic bladder or tire carcass can be sealed against the ingress of soil and rock between the track shoes attached about the outer periphery of the belt by forming individual and permanent flat sites on the outer circular periphery of the belt so the flat undersurface of each track shoe is nested on a flat shoe site and therefore does not have triangular shaped gaps under its leading and trailing edges. A transverse rib of elastomer, raised from the surface belt between each of the adjacent flat sites further seals the belt in the narrow gaps formed between adjacent track shoes thereby preventing the ingress of soil and rock in these gaps when the shoes pass through a footprint formed as the pneumatic supported system is rolled. In elevation, the outer surface of this pneumatic carcass supported belt is polygonal in appearance with a ridge or rib located at each joint between adjacent flat surfaces of the shoe sites which are circumferentially disposed around the belt.

摘要: Apparatus for handling a large object, i.e., for example, an annular core on which a tire carcass is to be formed, includes an annular wall positionable about the annular core, and a diaphragm associated with the inner surface of the wall and defining with the wall a chamber into which pressurized fluid may be directed. Such introduction of pressurized fluid expands the diaphragm so that such diaphragm comes into contact with and grips the core. The core may then be moved and/or turned over by manipulation of the wall.

摘要: A rim for a pneumatic tire carcass has a pair of rim portions which are securable together to form such rim. One rim portion is integral with a wheel hub and includes a plurality of pockets or guide openings formed therein. The other rim portion includes guide members which correspond to these pockets and which are positionable therein to position the rim portions relative to each other. Apparatus for separating the rim portions with the tire carcass mounted on them is disclosed, as is apparatus for pulling the tire carcass off a rim portion after the other rim portion has been separated therefrom. In another embodiment, a pair of rim portions are assembled by positioning posts fixed on one rim portion into angled slots defined by the other rim portion, and rotating one rim portion relative to the other, the posts being drawn into the slots during such rotation to draw the rim portions together. In yet another embodiment, the tire carcass is supplied with an inner peripheral stiffener, which is seatable in a groove formed by a pair of fixed-together rimmed portions to center the tire carcass thereon. Also, another embodiment includes an annular plate and rim portions mounted in spaced relationship on either side thereof.

摘要: Disclosed herein is apparatus for winding substantially inextensible flexible filament material or extensible flexible rubber material on and about the body of a toroidal member of oval cross-section (in this particular embodiment a disintegrable tire core). The apparatus includes rollers which support the toroidal member with the mid-circumferential plane thereof substantially vertical. The apparatus also includes a guide ring encircling the body of the toroidal member and supported in a substantially horizontal disposition. Drive means are included for rotating the guide ring about its axis and about the body of the toroidal member, meanwhile rotating the toroidal member about its axis, so that the toroidal member is advanced through the rotating guide ring. A supply of filament material is mounted on the guide ring to travel therewith, and extends to the surface of the toroidal member, so that such rotation of the guide ring and toroidal member as described above winds the filament material about and along the body of the toroidal member. In cooperation with such supply of filament material, means are included for providing relatively constant and even tensioning of the filament material being applied to the surface of the toroidal member, taking into account the oval cross-section of the toroidal member. A supply of extensible rubber material may be mounted on the guide ring to travel with the guide ring in place of the supply of the filament material. The rubber material extends from the supply to the surface of the toroidal member, so that rotation of the guide ring and toroidal member as described above winds the rubber material about and along the body of the toroidal member. In cooperation with such supply of rubber material, means are included for extending or stretching the rubber material continuously a substantially constant amount before it is supplied to the surface of the toroidal member, and depositing on said surface a substantially uniformly stretched material, taking into account the oval cross-section of the toroidal member. The support roller system, on which the toroidal member rotates, includes a bogey system to allow for change in the size of the toroidal member due to the wrapping of the materials thereon.
