    Abstract: Apparatus for sensing acceleration and generating an analog-type pressurized fluid signal proportional to the magnitude of the associated event. Linear acceleration as sensed by a flexuremounted inertial mass including a hollow, elongated spring member of the cantilever beam type having a first end rigidly fixed in position and a second unsupported end upon which the acceleration-sensitive inertial mass is mounted. The hollow portion of the spring member issues a fluid jet from the second unsupported end directed at fluid receivers, the flexure of the spring member causing distribution of the jet between the receivers in proportion to the magnitude of the acceleration. Fluid amplifier circuitry provides high gain and stabilization in the loop comprising the spring-mass device, receivers, fluid amplifier circuitry and a negative feedback circuit to obtain closed-loop null-type operation producing insensitiveness to changes in pressure of the fluid supplied to the hollow spring member. Angular motion acceleration is sensed by utilizing a cylindrical inertial mass connected along its longitudinal axis to two torsional spring members rigidly fixed in position at their far ends such that the cylindrical mass is subject to rotation in the presence of an angular motion acceleration.

THE PHASE SHIFT ACROSS THE SENSOR TUBE OF FIXED LENGTH IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE ABSOLUTE TEMPERATURE OF THE FLUID WITHIN THE TUBE, AND IF THE TUBE IS EXPOSED TO VARYING TEMPERATURE THE PHASE SHIFT REPRESENTS AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE.

    Abstract: A fluidic axis position sensor is disclosed wherein the axis of rotation of a rotating mass may be determined by sensing irregularities on the surface of the rotating mass. The surface irregularities induce pressure changes in the ambient fluid which may then be sensed. The specific embodiment disclosed relates to a gyroscopic rotor formed by joining hemispheres of differing diameters. Upon rotation about an axis not having as an equator the discontinuity formed by the joint, the discontinuity induces pressure variations which are sensed by fluidic pickoffs spaced about the rotating mass. The output of each pickoff is a pulse width modulated signal whose duty cycle is used to determine the position of the axis of rotation of the mass.

    Abstract: A closed loop oscillator circuit consists of a tubing of predetermined length, an electrical-to-pneumatic transducer, a pneumatic-to-electrical transducer and an electronic amplifier. The electrical-to-pneumatic transducer converts an electrical frequency signal to a pneumatic frequency signal which generates pressure waves in a gaseous medium within the tubing. The tube length corresponds to one or multiple half-wavelengths of a reference frequency of oscillation. The electronic amplifier provides sufficient gain to maintain self-sustained oscillation in the closed loop circuit. The temperature or gas content (ratio) of the gaseous medium within the tubing can be determined from the actual oscillation frequency in the circuit.

    Abstract: A fluidic oscillator is disclosed which incorporates a flexurally mounted jet pipe adapted to oscillate and discharge alternately into a pair of receivers. The jet pipe includes a pair of opposed reaction surfaces radially displaced from its rotational axis and aligned with a pair of driving ports. Output from the jet pipe receivers is amplified by a proportional fluid amplifier, and a negative feedback is provided whereby fluid output from the proportional amplifier is directed to the driving ports and issued therefrom as a pulsating jet stream to promote oscillation of the jet pipe. In an alternative embodiment, the proportional fluid amplifier is replaced by a digital fluid amplifier.

    Abstract: The gain of a fluidic proportional integrator circuit is alternately reduced to zero to obtain a fluidic reset integrator having no moving mechanical parts. A rapid reduction to zero gain is achieved by alternately switching the output of a digital fluid amplifier from the power fluid inlet of a proportional fluid amplifier in the integrator circuit in accordance with the pressure magnitude at the output of the integrator circuit.
