Abstract:
Compliant coupling systems and methods are provided for coupling a shroud to an engine casing. The complaint coupling system includes a retaining ring adapted to be positioned adjacent to the shroud and adapted to be coupled to the engine casing. The retaining ring defines a coupling channel about a circumference of the retaining ring and at least one notch that interrupts the coupling channel. The complaint coupling system also includes a first clip received within the coupling channel. The first clip has a biasing portion that extends into a space defined by the at least one notch, and the biasing portion is adapted to contact the shroud. The complaint coupling system includes a second clip received within the coupling channel. The second clip has a bumper portion that extends into the spaced defined by the at least one notch, and the bumper portion is adapted to contact the shroud.
Abstract:
A coupling apparatus for use in sealingly connecting a first fluid flow path to a second fluid flow path. The coupling apparatus includes a rigid fluid flow channel having a first end and a second end, wherein the fluid flow channel is substantially rigid in an axial direction and a radial direction, a first sealing terminus that is rigidly connected to the first end and that is configured for sealing with the first fluid flow path, and a second sealing terminus that is slidingly disposed about the second end such that the second sealing terminus is configured for relative movement with respect to the second end, and wherein the second sealing terminus is further configured for sealing with the second fluid flow path. The coupling apparatus further includes a flexible coupler connected to both the first sealing terminus and the second sealing terminus and surrounding the fluid flow channel, wherein the coupler is relatively more flexible in the axial direction and the radial direction as compared to the fluid flow channel.
Abstract:
An engine component includes a body having an internal surface and an external surface, the internal surface at least partially defining an internal cooling circuit. The component further includes a plurality of cooling holes formed in the body and extending between the internal cooling circuit and the external surface of the body. The plurality of cooling holes includes a first cooling hole with a metering portion and a diffuser portion extending from the metering portion to the external surface of the body.

Abstract:
Cladding material is applied by laser to a net-shape. A method of cladding a host component includes installing the component in a fixture. A shroud component is located against the host component adjacent a select location for the cladding. Cladding is applied to the host component to the select location and adjacent to shroud component so that the shroud component defines an edge of the cladding as applied. The edge of the cladding as defined by the shroud component defines a desired cladding profile requiring no/approximately no post-cladding processing to remove over-cladded material.
Abstract:
A retention and control system includes a rotor configured to rotate about an axis. A shroud ring has a peripheral groove and surrounds the rotor with a clearance defined between the rotor and the ring. A support ring engages the shroud ring in the peripheral groove and axially locates the shroud ring. The support ring includes a series of tabs, each with an aperture, projecting radially outward from the support ring. A retention spring engages the support ring radially outward from the shroud ring and includes a series of openings, one of which registers with each of the apertures. An alignment pin extends through each of the registered openings and apertures to locate the support ring and the engaged shroud ring concentrically with the turbine about the axis.
Abstract:
Hybrid bonded turbine rotors and methods for manufacturing the same are provided. A method for manufacturing a hybrid bonded turbine rotor comprises the steps of providing turbine disk having a rim portion comprising a live rim of circumferentially continuous material and a plurality of live rim notches in an outer periphery of the turbine disk alternating with a plurality of raised blade attachment surfaces defining the outer periphery; providing a plurality of turbine blades, each of which comprising an airfoil portion and a shank portion, the shank portion having a base surface; metallurgically bonding a compliant alloy material layer to either or both of the raised blade attachments surfaces of the turbine disk and the base surfaces of the blade shanks; and linear friction welding the plurality of blades to the turbine disk so as to form a bond plane between the raised blade attachments surfaces of the turbine disk and the base surfaces of the blade shanks, the compliant alloy material layer being disposed at the bond plane.
