The method also includes the steps of validating the characteristics of the weld created between the first and second components in real-time during the welding process; modifying the welding apparatus to prepare the surface of the first component prior to welding to assure proper alignment of the first and second components; and/or physically modifying the second component to enhance the welding characteristics and durability thereof.

    摘要: A friction welding apparatus has first and second clamps for respectively holding first and second parts to be welded by rotary friction welding, a device for producing relative rotation between the first and second clamps and a forge for applying an axial forging pressure to the parts to be welded when the parts are located in the clamps. The second clamp is mounted on a first half of a coupling. A second half of the coupling is movable axially between first and second positions. In the first position the second half of the coupling is engaged with the first half to prevent rotation of the second clamp and enable relative rotation between the first and second clamps. In the second position the second half of the coupling is disengaged from the first half to enable rotation of the second clamp and stop relative rotation between the first and second clamps.

    摘要: A method is provided of replacing a damaged blade of an integrally bladed rotor assembly including a disc and a plurality of blades extending outwardly from a rim of the disc. The method includes the steps of: removing the damaged blade to leave a blade repair stub projecting from the rim; locating sacrificial supports at the underside of the rim beneath the repair stub, the supports projecting axially beyond the trailing and leading edges of the rim; depositing metal around the trailing and leading edges of the repair stub, the deposited metal, supported by the sacrificial supports, projecting axially beyond the trailing and leading edges of the rim; attaching a replacement blade to the repair stub by linear friction welding; and removing excess deposited metal, upset metal from the linear friction welding, and the sacrificial supports.
