In accordance with the invention, there is provided a magnetic brush laydown/pickup apparatus having a shell surrounding a plurality of alternating pole magnets, said shell and magnets being relatively movable to transport developer mix through a development zone. Developer mix, comprised of toner particles and carrier particles, is selectively supplied to the surface of the shell at a location upstream of a development zone. The developer mix is selectively removed from the surface of the shell at a location downstream of the development zone. Toner particles are selectively stripped from the developer mix on the shell. A control is used to (1) activate the supply and removal of developer mix to and from the shell and deactivate the stripping of toner particles to provide a source of toner particles for laydown in the development zone, and (2) deactivate the supply and removal of developer mix to and from the shell and activate the stripping of toner particles to provide a source of developer mix, substantially depleted of toner particles, for toner particle pickup in the development zone.

The present invention relates to providing processor redundancy in a system such as a router. According to an embodiment of the present invention, when a primary processor is about to crash in a system having two or more processors, the imminent crash is identified prior to the occurrence of the actual crash. The primary processor sends a message to the secondary processor to indicate that it is crashing. The primary also sets a timer to determine a period of time to wait prior to crashing. When the secondary processor receives the message from the primary processor, the secondary processor becomes the new primary processor. The new primary processor then sends an acknowledgement to the old primary processor. The old primary processor crashes and reboots as the new secondary processor.

A system and method for digital ad insertion includes a unit to mark a video bitstream with Internet protocol (IP) splice points based on cue tone signals embedded within the video bitstream. The unit outputs a single transport stream (TS) that is sent across a packet-based network. A splicing device with an associated ad server is operable to receive the TS and detect the IP splice points. The splicing device signaling the ad server to retrieve one or more ads for insertion into the TS at one of the IP splice points.
