    摘要: A data receiver is provided which includes a front end interface circuit having an alternating current (AC) transmission receiving mode and a direct current (DC) transmission receiving mode. The front end interface circuit includes an offset compensation circuit operable to compensate a DC voltage offset between a pair of differential signals input to the data receiver. The front end interface circuit further includes an AC/DC selection unit operable to switch between (a) the DC transmission receiving mode, and (b) the AC transmission receiving mode, such that the data receiver is operable in (i) the DC transmission mode in which the offset compensation circuit is disabled, (ii) the DC transmission mode in which the offset compensation circuit is enabled, (iii) the AC transmission mode in which the offset compensation circuit is disabled, and (iv) the AC transmission receiving mode in which the offset compensation circuit is enabled.

The circuit of the present invention comprises a control circuit for generating signals in response to a test enable signal, a differential driver circuit for receiving a differential input signal, amplifying the differential input signal and transmitting a differential output signal in response to the differential input signal and the signals generated by the control circuit, a programmable termination impedance circuit for generating a differential termination impedance at the output node of the differential driver circuit in response the signals generated by the control circuit, and a differential receiver circuit for receiving the differential output from the differential driver circuit, convert the differential output signal to a single ended signal and transmitting the single ended signal, all in response to the test enable signal. The method of the present invention comprises digitally testing the differential driver circuit by activating a test enable signal, skewing the differential output termination impedance in response to the test enable signal, adjusting a voltage offset of the differential receiver circuit in response to the test enable signal, selecting a power level for the differential driver circuit in response to the test enable signal, enabling a decoder in response to the test enable signal, wherein the decoder activates only one segment of the differential driver circuit during any one test sequence, activating one of the segments for testing, stimulating the differential driver circuit with digital test patterns, receiving an output of the differential driver circuit by the differential receiver circuit, converting the received differential driver output to a single-ended signal, observing the single-ended signal; and deactivating the test enable signal.

    摘要: Systems and methods for controlling electro-migration, and reducing the deleterious effects thereof, are disclosed. Embodiments provide for reversal of an applied voltage to an integrated circuit when a measurement indicative of an extent of electro-migration indicates that a healing cycle of operation is warranted. During the healing cycle, circuits of the integrated circuit function normally, but electro-migration effects are reversed. In one embodiment, micro-electro-mechanical switches are provided at a lowest level of metallization to switch the direction of current through the levels of metallization of the integrated circuit. In another embodiment, if the measurement indicative of the extent of electro-migration exceeds a reference level by a specifiable amount, then the voltage applied to the integrated circuit is reversed in polarity to cause current to switch directions to counter electro-migration. A plurality of switches are provided to switch current directions through a lowest level of metallization so that the circuits function normally even though the polarity of the applied voltage has been reversed.

    摘要: A method and apparatus are provided for implementing an enhanced hand shake protocol for microelectronic communication systems. A transmitter and a receiver is coupled together by a transmission link. The transmitter receives an idle input. The idle input is activated when the transmitter is not transmitting data and the transmitter applies a first common mode level to the receiving unit. The idle input is deactivated when the transmitter is ready to transmit data and the transmitter raises the common mode level to the receiving unit. Responsive to the receiver detecting the common mode level up-movement, then the receiver receives the transmitted data signals. After the desired data has been sent, the transmitter terminates communications, drops the common mode level with the idle input being activated.

    摘要: An apparatus and method is provided for detecting loss of differential signal carried by a pair of differential signal lines. According to the method, a common mode level is detected from voltages on the pair of differential signal lines. A threshold level is generated, referenced to the detected common mode level. A signal level is generated from the voltages on the pair of differential signal lines, the signal level being averaged over a first period of time. From the threshold level and the detected common mode level a reference level is generated, the reference level being averaged over a second period of time longer than then the first period of time. The signal level is compared to the reference level to determine if a signal is present on the pair of differential signal lines.
