Abstract: A power tool, a wireless communication device, and method for jobsite inventory checks are provided. The power tool (104) include a body, an actuator, an antenna (240), and an electronic controller (210) in communication with the antenna (240). The electronic controller (210) includes a processor (220) configured to receive a mesh mode message requesting that the power tool (104) enable a mesh communication mode, receive an inventory check message originating from a wireless communication device, retransmit the inventory check message to at least one additional power tool in a mesh network with the power tool (104), receive an additional tool identifier from each of the at least one additional power tools in the mesh network, and transmit, in response to the inventory check message, a tool identifier for the power tool (104) and each of the additional tool identifiers.

The method can further include transmitting the consolidated message to a remote server via a network.

The power tool device (102) for location tracking comprises: a motion sensor (252) configured to sense motion; a transceiver (240) configured to wireless communicate; and an electronic controller (210) including a processor (220) and a memory (230), the electronic controller (210) communicatively coupled to the motion sensor (252) and the transceiver (240), and the electronic controller (210) configured to: identify a first location of the power tool device (102) based on the power tool device (102) exiting a tool tracking area (112); measure, via the motion sensor (252), movement of the power tool device (102) relative to the first location; and transmit, via the transceiver (240), power tool device location data based on the movement measured via the motion sensor (252).

Abstract: A power tool may include a compartment in its housing and a first printed circuit board (PCB) located in the housing and electrically coupled to a first connector. An insertable wireless communication device may include a second electronic processor and an antenna that are each mounted to a second PCB. The insertable wireless communication device may be configured to be received in the compartment and may include a second connector configured to electrically and physically couple to the first connector. The insertable wireless communication device may be configured to wirelessly communicate with an external device. When the insertable wireless communication device is inserted into the compartment, a first conductive layer of the first PCB may be configured to be electrically coupled to the antenna via the first connector and the second connector such that the first conductive layer of the first PCB serves as a ground plane of the antenna.

Abstract: Systems and methods for establishing a wireless connection using a connection identifier. The systems include a dust extractor and a power tool. The tool electronic processor is configured to: search for the connection advertisement broadcast from the dust extractor; establish the wireless connection with the dust extractor when the connection advertisement is received; provide the request for the connection identifier to the dust extractor; receive the response from the dust extractor; and provide a second indication of the successful wireless connection.

Abstract: A system and method for power tool communication is provided. In particular, a gateway device communicates in parallel with a plurality of power tools. The gateway device may establish communication links with a plurality of power tools, each communication link associated with a power tool, with a transceiver-converter pair of a plurality of transceiver-converter pairs, and with a frequency channel of a plurality of frequency channels. The gateway device may further communicate with each of the power tools in parallel over the communication links, wherein the communication with each respective power tool of the plurality of power tools occurs with the transceiver-converter pair and frequency channel associated with the respective power tool. In some examples, the gateway device establishes a link and communicates with the plurality of power tools using a shared transceiver-converter pair.
