Phosphors and a method for producing yellow-emitting tin-manganese coactivated calcium fluorophosphate phosphors having improved brightness comprises the steps of blending a powder mixture including the phosphates, carbonates, fluorides and oxides of calcium, tin, and manganese together with an ammonium salt, and firing the mixture at a temperature of between about 1100.degree. C. and about 1300.degree. C. for a period sufficient to produce a luminescent composition. The presence of an ammonium compound in the initial powder blend promotes the proper atmosphere during the firing step to insure the incorporation of proper levels of tin and manganese ions in the final phosphor.

The lumen maintenance of fluorescent lamps containing yttrium vanadate phosphors is markedly improved by the presence of a protective oxide layer for the phosphor. The protective oxide layer is produced by evaporating aluminum isopropoxide, in a vacuum, over phorphor particles forming a continuous aluminum isopropoxide over the phosphor particles. The isopropoxide coating is subsequently oxidized by lehring the phosphor at a temperature from about 500.degree. C. to 625.degree. C. forming an alumina coating on the phosphor particles.

Apparatus and method support the synchronization and calibration of a plurality of clocks in a medical device system that may provide treatment to a patient with a nervous system disorder. The plurality of clocks, which may be located at different components of the medical device system, includes a first clock and a second clock. The second clock may be synchronized to a first clock by disabling a run mode operation and setting the second clock to a selected time. When a reference time of the first clock approximately equals the selected time, the second clock enables the run mode operation. Additionally, a drift time that is indicative of a time difference between the first clock and the second clock is determined. If the drift time is greater than a predetermined amount, an indication to resynchronize the first and second clocks is provided.

The phosphor coating is applied to the interior surface of the gas discharge lamp using an aqueous suspension containing the primary phosphor, the nano-size phosphor, and an organic binder.
