摘要:
There is disclosed a method of producing a bimetal for use as a material for a plain bearing. A copper alloy powder is placed on a back steel. The back metal and the copper alloy powder are preheated to a temperature near a Curie point of the steel in a reducing atmosphere by high-frequency induction heating. The preheated back steel and copper alloy powder are heated to a temperature of 770.degree. C. to 950.degree. C. in one of an electric resistance furnace and a gas furnace in a reducing atmosphere so that the copper alloy powder is sintered to form a sintered copper alloy layer and at the same time the sintered copper alloy layer is bonded to the back steel, thereby producing the bimetal.

A tin-base white metal bearing alloy essentially consists of, by weight, more than 3% and up to 15% Sb, more than 2% and up to 10% Ni, more than 0.001% and up to 1% Cr, up to 9% Cu, and balance of Sn and incidental impurities. Since Ni increases the strength at high temperature and the melting point, heat resistance and fatigue resistance as a tin-base white metal bearing alloy are improved. In this case, the strength will be further improved by containing at least one element of Cd, Be, Co and Mn whose amount or total amount is more than 0.1% and up to 5% by weight.

A sliding bearing material of a three-layer structure includes a back steel layer, a bearing alloy layer, and an overlay formed by sputtering. The overlay has an excellent anti-seizure property, and the overlay contains, by weight, 10-80% Sn, 0.1-5% Cu, 0.05-3% Sb, and the balance Al. Optionally, the overlay may further contain not more than 10% of one or both of Pb and Bi. Also, optionally, the overlay may further contain not more than 5% Si.

A sliding bearing such as a half sliding bearing, a cylindrical bushing and etc. includes a back metal of a three-layer construction composed of a back metal portion of austenitic stainless steel having a thermal expansion coefficient of not less than 15.times.10.sup.-6 /.degree.C., a plated bonding layer formed on the back metal portion, and a plating layer of Cu or a Cu alloy formed on the bonding layer. An alloy layer made of a copper-lead alloy or a lead-bronze alloy is formed on the back metal. With this construction, the alloy layer is positively bonded to the back metal. The austenitic stainless steel is of such a type that the back metal is less subjected to work hardening, and the austenitic stainless steel contains those components which prevent work-inducing martensite transformation.

The present invention relates to a composite sliding member having a backing metal and a sliding layer consisting of lead-containing copper alloy and being bonded to the backing metal, and to the method of producing the same. The present invention resides in more superior sliding performance exhibited due to uniform and fine distribution of lead particles in the copper alloy matrix. The method of the present invention to produce composite sliding members comprises using the atomized powder in which lead particles are finely and uniformly distributed in the alloy matrix and forming a cladding layer as the sliding layer through a plasma arc welding apparatus.

A surface metal plate 2 made of aluminium or aluminium alloy is overlayed upon a backing metal plate 1 and integrally bonded by cold rolling bonding of a rolling machine 30. After that, the thus obtained composite metal plate 3 is annealed, so that the bonding strength between a surface metal layer 1a having a thickness of 2 to 8 mm and a backing metal layer 2a is enhanced.
