摘要： An image processing apparatus in which the amount of data bits for each of plural block units is controlled to be the same for all block units, so as to facilitate location of each block unit in coded image data without necessarily decoding the entire image. Pixel image data which is formable into plural block units is input for each block unit, and the input image data is orthogonally transformed. The orthogonally-transformed image data is quantized, and variable-length coding is performed on the quantized image data so as to generate variable-length code. The amount of variable length code in each block unit is controlled to be no more than a predetermined amount of data bits, with the predetermined amount being the same for each block unit.

The storage is conducted on the basis of blocks each having a predetermined number of pixels. The mean information quantity of the halftone image data per pixel stored in the memory means is not greater than the information quantity of the line image data per pixel stored in the memory means. The halftone image data is compressed on the basis of blocks. Therefore, both the halftone image data and line image data can be stored in a small memory by using common addresses, without causing any degradation of the image quality.

The control section thereby recognizes weight of a bunch of sheets formed on the processing tray, and when the section determines that the weight is heavier than predetermined weight, decreases a rotation velocity of a drive motor of a sheet bunch transport means, or increases a current amount applied to the drive motor. By this means, torque of the motor is increased, and the bunch of sheets is reliably discharged to the first stack tray.
