Abstract:
A four port reversing valve for a reversible-cycle refrigeration system having a compressor is constructed with the reversing valve having a first inlet port adapted to be connected to the compressor and second, third, and fourth ports. The four port reversing valve is further provided with a rotatable valve member operable between first and second positions. The valve member in its first position connects the first inlet port with the second port and the third port with the fourth port, and the valve member in its second position connects the first inlet port with the fourth port, and the second port with the third ports. The second and third ports and the third and fourth ports are arranged so that the angle between the ports is greater than about 90°. The third port is preferably oriented at an angle of about 120° with respect to the second and fourth ports, but the third port may also be oriented at an angle of about 135° with respect to the second and fourth ports. The four port reversing valve further comprises a rotating drive mechanism with the valve member magnetically coupled to the rotating drive mechanism. Alternatively, a linked rotary solenoid or hermetic motor can be connected to the valve member.
Abstract:
A thermally printable commercially functional cash register tape produced from a thin oriented, heat stabilized, thermoplastic film is described. This thermoplastic tape replaces the currently used paper cash register tape. It will accept printing, has sufficient machine direction stiffness and sufficiently reduced surface electrical charges to function in conventional commercial cash register printers. The thermoplastic tape is much thinner than the conventional paper tape so a roll of the plastic register tape contains about 4.7 times the paper length of a typical cash register roll.

In one embodiment the valve member rotates, and in another it translates linearly. Several means are disclosed for actuating the valve member.
Abstract:
A fluorescent lamp assembly includes a fluorescent lamp ballast capable of detecting at least one of a plurality of input signals and generating an output signal. The output signal is associated with a power level that is based on the at least one detected input signal. The fluorescent lamp assembly also includes a fluorescent lamp capable of receiving the output signal and generating light. An intensity of the light is based on the power level associated with the output signal.
Abstract:
A system controls an induction motor driven by a power inverter circuit. An operational amplifier circuit is operatively connected to the power inverter circuit and operative therewith for sensing DC current and controlling acceleration and deceleration of the induction motor. The operational amplifier circuit includes a first operational amplifier operative in a motoring mode to have a positive polarity output and remain substantially at zero during a regeneration mode. A second operational amplifier circuit is operative in a regeneration mode to have a negative polarity output and remain substantially at zero in a motoring mode.

Abstract:
A device and method that determine a freewheeling rotation of an electric motor. The method includes steps of measuring first and second signals from respective first and second windings of an unenergized motor, and determining from the first and second signals whether the unenergized motor is rotating. The method may also include determining from the first and second signals the direction of rotation if the unenergized motor is rotating. The method may further include measuring a third signal from a third winding of the unenergized motor, and determining whether the motor is rotating may include determining that the motor is not rotating if the first, second, and third signals are equal. The first and second signals may each comprise a respective back voltage.
