The portable terminal includes at least a vibration member having a first surface exposed to an exterior, a vibration element operative to vibrate the vibration member in response to an electric signal corresponding to sound information, and electronic circuitry that outputs the electric signal, a difference in amplitude between individual places within the first surface of the vibration member in a vibrating state being less than or equal to 60 dB in terms of a ratio of maximum value to minimum value of amplitude. A portable terminal can be obtained that is capable of acquiring sound information successfully simply by being brought near to or into contact with the ear without the necessity of careful handling.

摘要: A method for preparing an optical device by dicing includes applying a dicing tape onto the back face of a substrate provided thereon with a large number of optical elements on the surface thereof and dicing the substrate from the surface side of the substrate using a blade to thus prepare individual optical devices and the method is characterized in that the dicing operation is conducted in several stages using a blade which can ensure a moderate autogenously blade-generating effect. An optical device prepared by the method includes a substrate and an optical element formed on the surface of the substrate and it is characterized in that the maximum size of the ruptures present on the back face of the substrate in the direction vertical to the cut surface is not more than 0.1 mm.

摘要: The present invention has an object of enhancing the tolerance of setup positioning error of an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer which uses a multi-mode optical waveguide. For this sake, the invention is designed to couple the multi-mode optical waveguide with a single-mode optical waveguide directly. In another configuration of this invention, there is provided between both optical waveguides a single-mode optical waveguide having its length set to be approximately equal to zero, or equal or approximately equal to the period of interference between the 0th-order mode and a radiative higher-order mode of the single-mode optical waveguide.

摘要: The present invention provides a polymeric optical waveguide film whose core and clad are constituted from polymer materials and which is characterized in that a protective layer of a polymer material having resistance to solvent attack higher than that observed for the clad is arranged on at least one of the surface and back face of the waveguide film. The present invention thus permits the preparation of such a film, the clad of which is hardly damaged, which is excellent in the resistance to solvent attack and which never undergoes cracking even when it is bought into contact with a commonly used solvent such as acetone.

摘要: A method of inspecting a liquid crystal panel and determining the type of defect. Each part of the liquid crystal panel is extracted and inspected by comparison with an extracted reference part. The parts to be inspected may be found based on the location of previously found parts or by examining a plot of the density in the image. Vector data from a part that is known to be defectless is used to extract the reference part. Alternatively, the contour of a reference part may be determined by analyzing the vector data which was obtained for the parts to be inspected. The type of defect is determined by classifying the defective part according to characteristics of the part's image (e.g., brightness of the pixels) as compared with parts having known defects.
