Abstract:
Cooling air is provided from a source of cooling air through a cooling air circuit in a turbine section of a gas turbine engine. A first portion of cooling air is provided from the source along a first path of the circuit to a plurality of blades associated with a stage of the turbine section. A second portion of cooling air is provided from the source along a second path of the circuit. The second path includes a turbine disc bore where the cooling air provides cooling to a radially innermost portion of at least one turbine disc that forms a part of a rotor of the engine. The second path is independent from the first path such that the second portion of cooling air bypasses the stage and is not mixed with the first portion of cooling air in the circuit after leaving the source.
Abstract:
Bioabsorbable, water-soluble hemostatic cellulose based gauze matrix structures are described, including one or more species of chitosan, etherized cellulose, nonionic surfactant, water-soluble polysaccharide hydrocolloid and/or gum. Approximately 85% to 95% deacetylated decrystallized chitosan, present in an amount from about 2% to about 15% by weight, is found to be particularly advantageous. Favorable properties are found related to rapid stoppage of bleeding and bioabsorbability, among other properties.
Abstract:
A method and system for documenting and managing patient information in real time for accurate medical examination and treatment of a patient is provided. An information carrier device that stores patient information is provided to the patient. A data extraction unit extracts the stored patient information from the information carrier device and transmits the extracted patient information to a patient information processing system. A recording unit records observational data comprising medical examination information and information on treatment prescribed for the patient. The patient information processing system processes and analyzes the patient information received from the information carrier device and/or the data extraction unit and the observational data extracted from the recording unit, generates a medical examination report in one or more of multiple formats, and transmits the medical examination report in one or more formats to the information carrier device for updating the patient information in the information carrier device.
Abstract:
Compounds useful as Rho kinase inhibitors according to formula IA or IB: wherein A, B, D, E, R1, R2 and Ar1 are as defined herein, and any tautomer, salt, stereoisomer, hydrate, solvent, or prodrug thereof, pharmaceutical compositions, methods of treatment, and synthetic methods are provided.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatus, and systems, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for measuring multi-channel single-shot transient signals. A signal acquisition unit receives one or more single-shot pulses from a multi-channel source. An optical-fiber recirculating loop reproduces the one or more received single-shot optical pulses to form a first multi-channel pulse train for circulation in the recirculating loop, and a second multi-channel pulse train for display on a display device. The optical-fiber recirculating loop also optically amplifies the first circulating pulse train to compensate for signal losses and performs optical multi-channel noise filtration.
Abstract:
A dispersion is made up of water refractory particles and material for forming pores and a polymeric dispersion. A water sensitive destabilising agent is added to increase the viscosity of the mix and cause it to solidify to form a green body which is removed from a mould and then heated and sintered.
Abstract:
A turbine engine heating system configured to heat compressor and turbine blade assemblies to eliminate turbine and compressor blade tip rub during warm restarts of gas turbine engines is disclosed. The turbine engine heating system may include a heating air extraction system configured to withdraw air from the turbine engine and to pass that air thru a heating element configured to increase a temperature of the air supplied by the heating air extraction system. The air may then be passed to a heating air supply system via an air movement device. The heating air supply system may be in communication with a turbine cylinder cavity of the turbine engine positioned radially outward from at least one turbine assembly. The heated air may be passed into the turbine cylinder cavity to reduce the cooling rate of the turbine vane carriers after shutdown and before a warm restart to limit tip rubbing.
Abstract:
A cooling fluid air injection system for use in a gas turbine engine includes at an external cooling fluid source, at least one rotor cooling pipe, which is used to inject cooling fluid from the source into a rotor chamber, a piping system that provides fluid communication between the source and the rotor cooling pipe(s), a blower system for conveying the cooling fluid through the piping system and the rotor cooling pipe(s) into the rotor chamber, and a valve system. The valve system is closed during full load engine operation to prevent cooling fluid from the source from passing through the piping system, and open during less than full load engine operation to allow cooling fluid from the source to pass through the piping system.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for controlling three or more nested modulators in an optical signal application. A single bias controller circuit is coupled to the respective DC biases for each of the nested modulators. The bias controller circuit sends a separate bias control signal to each of the nested modulators to set a working point for each of the nested modulators. An optical filter located at the output of the nested modulators in the path of a tapped signal and coupled to the bias controller circuit passes a carrier wavelength of the optical signal and blocks wavelengths other than the carrier wavelength. At least one photo detector is coupled to the bias controller circuit and senses an error signal associated with a pilot tone.
