    摘要: An electromagnetic braking system and method is provided for selectively braking a motor using an electromagnetic brake having an electromagnet, a permanent magnet, a rotor assembly, and a brake pad. The brake assembly applies when the electromagnet is de-energized and releases when the electromagnet is energized. When applied the permanent magnet moves the brake pad into frictional engagement with a housing, and when released the electromagnet cancels the flux of the permanent magnet to allow a leaf spring to move the brake pad away from the housing. A controller has a DC/DC converter for converting a main bus voltage to a lower braking voltage based on certain parameters. The converter utilizes pulse-width modulation (PWM) to regulate the braking voltage. A calibrated gap is defined between the brake pad and permanent magnet when the brake assembly is released, and may be dynamically modified via the controller.

The method includes the steps of signaling application of a service brake actuator to apply the brake, signaling driving of a first electric actuator to cause the extensible device to be able to retain the foundation brake in the brake applied position achieved by the service brake actuator, signaling the release of the service brake actuator, signaling driving of a second electric actuator to further compress the resilient element, monitoring a characteristic of the brake to determine if a desired force has been applied by the parking brake mechanism, and signaling driving of the electric motor to stop once the desired force has been reached.

    摘要: A variable electric brake assembly applies braking force to the wheel of a materials handling vehicle through a rotor shaft. A brake rotor rotates on the rotor shaft and is located within the brake assembly. When the vehicle is in a parked position, both an inner coil and an outer coil are de-energized. With the inner coil de-energized, an inner armature is not attracted to the inner coil, and the inner armature is forced against the brake rotor by springs to prevent the rotation of the brake rotor. When the vehicle is moving in a free running position, the outer coil remains de-energized while the inner coil is energized. With the inner coil energized, the inner armature is attracted to the inner coil and overcomes the force of the springs, thereby allowing the brake rotor to freely rotate. When the vehicle undergoes dynamic braking, both the outer coil and the inner coil are energized. When the outer coil is variably energized, the outer armature is variably attracted to the outer coil to apply a variable dynamic braking force to the brake rotor.
