Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a conveyance unit, a first reading unit, a first guide portion, a second reading unit, and a second guide portion. The second reading unit includes a rectangular transparent member, an optical reading unit, a housing, a first and a second contact portions, a first and a second pressing members, and a protruding portion. The first and the second contact portions are protruding from a facing surface of the housing. The protruding portion, when viewed from an upstream side in a conveyance direction of a recording material passing through a conveyance path between the second reading unit and the second guide portion, is disposed between the first contact portion and the second contact portion and protruding from the facing surface of the housing, a protruding amount of the protruding portion being smaller than protruding amounts of the first and the second contact portions.

Abstract: The sheet feeding device includes a feed roller, a separation pad and a guide part. The feed roller is configured to feed a sheet by being rotated while coming into pressure contact with the sheet. The separation pad is configured to form a separation nip by being in pressure contact with the feed roller and to separate the fed sheet at the separation nip. The guide part is configured to guide a leading edge of the sheet to the separation nip. The apex part is formed along a feeding direction of the sheet on both outer sides of the feed roller in a width direction perpendicular to the feeding direction. The apex part projects in a direction closer to the feed roller than an extension line of the separation nip between a pressure contact position of the feed roller and the sheet and the separation nip.

Abstract: A method is provided for printing an image on a substrate on a support body of a printing apparatus, the method including the steps of: providing a masking sheet on the support body; deriving from the image a boundary outline of the image; selecting a location on the support body for printing the image; printing the boundary outline of the image on the masking sheet at the selected location of the support body; printing at least one distance marker on at least one side of the printed boundary outline on the masking sheet, said distance marker indicating a distance from the boundary outline; placing the substrate on the masking sheet at the selected location of the support body using the boundary outline; determining an offset of the substrate relative to the printed boundary outline by way of the printed distance marker, after the substrate placing step; and printing the image on the substrate based on the determined offset of the substrate relative to the printed boundary outline.

Abstract: A sheet feeding device includes a manual bypass tray, a pair of side-fences and restricting members. On the manual bypass tray, a sheet conveyed to an apparatus main body is placed. The pair of side-fences are arranged slidable in a width direction orthogonal to a conveying direction of the sheet so as to mutually approach/separate on the manual bypass tray. The restricting members are arranged attachable to/ detachable from the pair of side-fences. Each of the restricting members includes a first engaging part and a preventive portion. The first engaging part is engaged with the manual bypass tray to restrict slide of each of the pair of side-fence in the width direction. The preventive portion is arranged so as to be separated upwardly from the manual bypass tray to prevent the sheet on the manual bypass tray from uplifting.

Abstract: A paddle wheel compiler includes a paddle wheel that accepts sheets from the front of the paddle wheel to form a set, unlike a disk stacker which accepts sheets from the top or back of the disk and flips the sheet. The paddle wheel compiler is unique in that it maintains control of all sheets in a set, except for the top sheet during tamping. The top sheet is registered to the set with side tampers, followed by a scuffing action to register the sheet against a registration wall in the process direction.
