A foot operable door opener operates, without using one's hands, and without an electrical assist. The entrance cycle is initiated by stepping on a pedal. This force drives the pedal a ¼ turn, engaging a soft wheel to open the door. The pedal is hard linked to a crank arm which goes into a unidirectional crank shaft hub to turn the wheel. The downward pressure from the pedal pivots a ratcheted hinge connected to a bracketed spring-loaded wheel assembly to keep constant pressure to the ground. A gear box or multiple pumps of the pedal turns the wheel two or more 360 degrees rotations, opening the door to allow the entrant to pass until the foot pedal is disengaged. This action releases the ratcheting hinge mechanism, allowing the spring assisted wheel assemble to rotate to its original up position, releasing the wheel from the ground, allowing the door to close.

To further reduce the space required for installation, and to facilitate installation of a device for opening and closing a door by the stepping force of a pedestrian, the door-opening/closing device includes a step plate (2) provided with multiple bearings, a link (5) whose one end is coupled to a bearing (6) of the step plate (2), with the bearing (6) disposed in a metal part fixed on the floor and coupled to the other end of the link (5). The step plate (2) remains horizontal when stepped on, and moves downward in an arcuate manner in the direction in which the pedestrian is walking. The return mechanism of the step plate (2) is composed of a link extender in which the other end side of the link (5) is extended in the direction opposite from the step plate (2), and a weight (7) that is axially supported on the extending-end part of the link extender. The retaining clip is configured to be aligned with either one of the holes of the bracket body. A connector passes through the retaining clip and corresponding hole of the bracket and penetrates the outer surface of the cabinet to secure the retaining clip to the bracket body and the mounting bracket to the cabinet. The pedal engages a rotating member that connects the pedal to the mounting bracket such that when a user depresses the pedal, the pedal rotates toward the user around the rotating member, whereby an engaging head of the pedal pushes the cabinet door open.
